Most of the longer combos require the crotch punch cause it resets the combo counter and has like no recovery frames.
Can i still be cool as ♥♥♥♥ without long combos?
I honestly like to think you look cooler dodging/countering as much as you would infinitely crotch punching something. You strike until they strike back, dodge/counter into your own hits, into a knock back. Think IP man, IP man was never in complete control/dominance and had to be defensive at times. He didn't just combo something into oblivion.
Like you can hit into a knock back, into a chasing punch, into a trip to a down attack.
Or you can toss enemies into other enemies to stagger multiples, but follow the one you threw with chase attacks etc. You can look as cool as you want.
Then the variation for boss fight become- you hit boss once; boss dodges every attack; boss attacks you, while the game prevents you from being able to negate any damage from attacks, even though it teaches you the mechanic to parry and dodge, doesn't matter. The boss will hit you regardless. This is what devs call "challenging the player"
Gameplay revolves around (freely) stringing them together to CC the enemy while also avoiding theirs.
Sifu has a parry and posture system that is pretty similar to Sekiro, parrying enemy attacks breaks their posture, blocking their attacks instead of parrying/avoiding breaks your posture. Posture broken enemies can be taken down with a special attack.
It has almost nothing to do with button mash type beatemups like Street Fighter etc.
The closes comparison would be DMC games, though it's lighter on that front, juggling more ideas within one combat system, rather than going all in on one.
You can do some neat chains, but nothing as demanding as in a fighting game. For the record I completely suck in fighters, but SIFU has been approachable and fun.
