Artist help needed
ok so i'm fighting her and A: she's learning everything i do. B: how do you dodge the spiral strike thing she does with the staff because no matter what button i press it seems to be a fifty fifty if the up, down, left, or right input is the correct one.

Ah, then yeah, that one is just all Highs (?).

Since you've already beaten Kuroki, she's now available in training mode (available via the wooden dummy in the Wuguan). You can practice all her patterns there (and also play through the tutorials, if you missed those).

I'm assuming you're playing on Disciple difficulty, since that determines her patterns.

I'm afraid that's not really specific enough to pinpoint a specific pattern, so I've no idea which one you mean. So instead I'll just list them all and hope that helps:
  • High Low Low High Low
  • Low High Low High
Both of these start with Kuroki doing a wide swing to her right. The latter has a slightly longer startup. It's usually best to Deflect the first few hits to determine how the rest of her string will go.
  • High High Low - vertical hits.
  • High High High High - starts with Kuroki swinging to her left.
Also, you shouldn't be Dodging her attacks, you should be Avoiding them. Dodging is pressing the sprint button, Avoiding is holding the Guard button and doing directional inputs.

Left, Down, and Right are all functionally identical. There's only High Avoids and Low Avoids, only two directions, no more than that.

As a general advice - bring a weapon with you (holding a weapon in hand prevents chip damage when blocking, and increases structure damage that your deflects/parries deal). Focus on deflecting her attacks instead of avoiding them, since that removes the ambiguity and lets you just focus on the timing. Though, of course, learning to avoid her attacks is still good for restoring your structure.

Ok so the specific move is usually a combo ender where she spins the first phase stick thing in a hurricane like pattern spinning around her top to bottom. Im also on the default difficulty so the normal ig. I didn’t know avoid was the correct term but tes I’ve been avoiding all of her attacks except the spiral combo ender. I bring the knife from the main lobby and I’ve gotten to her second phase (which is much easier) at age 20 i just want/need to nail that spiral surprise combo ender she does.

Actually, wait, I'm still a tad confused. Either you're talking about the attack where she spins around and rushes towards you, hitting you lots of times (which is all Highs), or the one where she does three hits (which is High High Low). I hope now that clarifies things.
