You can customize the player character's appearance/gender, but technically there's only one protagonist.

Well, you play as Yang in the prologue. So, technically, the answer is "yes."

You have one protagonist, you can choose male or female. There's unlockable costumes and you can unlock modifiers that change your moveset. Some arena challenges will have you play as another character.

TL;DR - Sorta?
