No option to spare, at all

Beat it on easy, never saw the spare button. Started on normal, fajar died and could not be spared. Every time I am killing them by pressing the finisher buttons that appear after you break their structure, which is exactly how it's shown in wude walkthroughs but in my case there is no prompt, they just kick the bucket. And no their health isn't zero. There was at least a quarter left in all those fights. This is annoying as heck and I don't understand what is wrong.

The prompt to spare the boss appears after you break their structure twice in their 2nd phase (1st phase doesn't matter, you can do that one however you like). You specifically have to not press the big red button(s) when the game asks you to. Let them recover, fight them some more, break their structure again.
