Don't confuse dodging and avoiding. Dodging is pressing the sprint button (used for repositioning), avoiding is holding the block button and doing directional inputs (actually used for counterattacking). There's only two avoid directions - up (for low attacks) or down (mid/overhead attacks). Side avoids aren't a thing, left and right inputs are interpreted the same as down. And the push is obviously not a low attack, so... that only leaves the other direction. (I'd personally advise to parry the push instead, but either option works).
No. Instead of doing Ground Counter (pressing the block button), or attacking, you can just press the dash/sprint button to roll away. It's as simple as that.
