Sifu

What kind of combat in Sifu?
Does button mashing get you through the game, or is it more of a deliberate, intentional combat system? Anything like combat in the Batman games?

Lot more deliberate and feels very intuitive.

Button mashing won't get you far in this game. Its kind of like a fighting game (deliberate attacks) meets Assassin's Creed (counter/dodge then attack) meets Sekiro (steep learning curve).

Oh pls do not mention Asscreed and Sifu in the same sentence.

Ubisoft is doing the bare minimum for their games in terms of combat mechanics and especialy "QUALITY". They got like 10 times the money of Sloclap and produce absolute inferior quality.

On the easiest dificulty (Student) button mashing can get you through the game (and that's probably intended?), but at its core and on any other difficulty, the combat is very much deliberate, and mindlessly mashing will get you killed very quickly.

Honestly, with this whole discourse, I'm yet to actually see a game where the standard difficulty lets you get away with button mashing. It's not like that's the case for the likes of Batman Arkham, AC, or even hack & slashers like MGR/DMC. But I digress.

It's like God of War but every enemy plays Tekken...

It is Warner Bros combat. Like Batman, Mad Max, shadow of mordor, spiderman, etc. Where you time your buttons. Probably the laziest combat there is. Gives the whole illusion that you are a bad ass. It is all fluff.

LOL. Gave up on his own thread and came here to complain.

play it on easy until you get a hang of all the combos and stuff the combat is really fun. DO NOT think you can just go into the other difficulties and have fun you will not. Start on easy mode master that then move up rinse and repeat with the difficulties

Whats the unlaziest combat that is, that is for non-illusory real badasses?

I can think of two off the top of my head. These games both allow you to be creative. You do not have to be on the defensive and reacting to the AI.

Overgrowth and Absolver.

I know what people will think. Nex dislikes Sifu cause he wanted another Absolver game. It is that I think they moved away from what made Absolver fun and sold out to gamers who like combo games. Yes, Absolver has combos, but they are not animations and you can string them together the way you want and mix different martial arts. So it is more creative. Also, Absolver has PvP and Co-op. The company was new at the time, so I understand they didn't have a budget to make it too long, but to use the money from Absolver to make a genre for a different community is some BS. Also to release it on Epic first. Clear this company is all about money. They never even tried to advertise Absolver..

Overgrowth is very satisfying with its combat. It is physics ragdoll. You could beat the game with just hand to hand combat. It is what Sifu should have been. Overgrowth was made by one guy..

It's funny to see people say this when I love the combat in Shadow of Mordor but I hate the combat in Sifu to the point where I tried to refund the game but couldn't because I bought it more than two weeks ago.

Combat is interesting, you have so many different way to approach a fight, each ennemy also can be punished differently. Whatever way you choose to fight, the game offers so many possibilities you can litteraly make a kung fu movie sequence for each fight, even just fighting one dude. What is very enjoyable but also difficult, is that most blows dealt by the ennemy can be managed differently, but you have to do it by yourself.

This may looks like typical beat'em all such as batman. mad max and other game using similar combat system. While it ressemble those games from an outsider persective it is very different when you play it.

I think it's because that style of combat works well in a game that doesn't demand extreme precision. I've only played a few hours but in Sifu I have issues with locking onto the correct enemy and one mistake can result in me dying in seconds. I definitely had that same issue in the Arkham games but it never was that big of a deal outside of a combat challenge or something. I respect Sifu and what they tried to do, but I just don't think it works perfectly all of the time. The one on one fights play out a lot better, but when there's a room full of enemies it kinda just doesn't work. I just don't think this style was meant to be used for such precision gameplay where one mistake can cost you your life.
