Did you like the story? (Spoilers most likely)

I have cold steel, reverie and daybreak on playstation. I love sky to an unhealthy degree and cold steel has some serious writing problems but it's at least fun.

This game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. I'm 40 hours in and bored as ♥♥♥♥. I just read the story synopsis on wikipedia and ♥♥♥♥ me. This ♥♥♥♥ sucks ass. Tf happened? Why is that where the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story went?

Bit of a weird franchise as a whole but jesus christ. I'm not alone in thinking the writing has taken a giant dump am I?

I thought it was good, not great but good.
Its more carried by the likeable characters then the overall story.
The villains are definitely a weak point and not very interesting but i appreciate that 95% of the plot was actually resolved in a single game instead of dragging it out with a cliffhanger and multiple games.

But overally i think Daybreak is a good entry in the series even though i like Cold Steel more.
But boy oh boy, if you had problems with the story in this game, the next one will be a treat.
Thats the one that is widely considered the worst game in the series with a absolute garbage story.


Wonder how the western fans will react to Daybreak 2 because the Japanese fanbase ♥♥♥♥ all over it.

Yeah i didn't think the story up until chapter 5 was awful. (I was a little tilted last night lol) it's just I'm not really having fun and it's not as good as I feel it could be.

One of my main issues is the games significant lack of music I can zone out to. Cold steel and sky have my favourite tracks in the whole franchise.

Hamel. the song joshua plays. crimson ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stigma ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. City themes. Every cold steel song is a banger imo. Especially the two first games major boss music. Spiral of erebos, holy spirit holy saint is a personal favourite.

I'm 40 hours in on chapter 5 of daybreak and nothing? I can't remember any of the songs really. They've gone from unique and bouncy (sky) to metal and crazy (coldsteel) to wait there's music? In daybreak 😭

And did you cringe with the whole take the grendel thing too? Eugh. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mahou shoujo ass lmao.

Also reddit got so mad at me for saying A was boring in comparison to ouroborus lmao. They're literally just haha we are evil. There's no cool little character quirks. No silly woman (duvalie), no obnoxious brat with magic cards. No cool maid, renne and joshua? And obviously knight woman who got btfo'd in cs4
She was my favourite tbh.

Nah, i loved that but i am a big Kamen Rider fan so this was basically just that in Trails.
I am always for transforming into cool mecha suits/power armor.


Also i actually really like the "Take the Grendel!" scream from Mare, the official English NISA dub did go with " The Grendel is all yours" in a normal voice which is so much lamer.


As for the music, yeah its a lot weaker then in previous games but its also "not bad".
And some tracks i really liked, like the blacklight district theme.
But the main composer of the Trails OST left after Cold Steel 4/Reverie so that may be a big reason for the downgrade in memorable tracks.

I liked the heed my call mr robot from cold steel so idk mare throws me off so bad it just feels so odd to say it when you have a nuclear missile tier threat in front of you lol

And yeah that explains why I'm not much of a fan of this games music then.

I liked the story and loved the characters and overall scenary. Compared with Osbourne or Bleublanc, however, the villains were kinda meh.

I agree with this statement. Though i didn't get much out of all the characters. Van was really cool and Aaron is pretty unique. Feri and Agnes though. They're cute i guess. Quatre has a good backstory and battle maid is pretty funny. (She's basically a mix between claire and Sharon minus the bdsm)

I like the Yumè and Paulette sideplot with blonde guy. Tbh i could play an entire visual novel of just those 3 lmao.

I was enjoying the story until halfway through chapter 4, when they went to a nuclear option, it just felt off at that point. While everything was made to be super high stakes, it didn't ever feel that way emotionally. Just felt a bit rushed. There also was no overarching compelling story for what A was doing. There was never a sense of what they were trying to accomplish or anything.

I also struggle with how strong/weak Almata are. While they seem super strong and can just murder at will and cause chaos, our party in a short 2 months goes from children who are quite inexperienced to being able to murder them in Oracion. That just feels off. I much prefer the pacing with cold steel and sky, where to survive the villains early on we needed help/assistance from some other great, and only by the end of the series could we actually seriously challenge them. Definitely would have loved for Ouroborous to play a bigger role, but I knew that wasn't happening from Reverie.
