Wel they first translated the previous game in the series in between this port coming out in Japanese and the English patch for this game. It takes them a while since there is a lot of text in these games. The pc port was allready done so why not release that in the mean time? There was les than a year between releases so I don't think that is lazynes. Also $79,99 that does not seem right. Are you talking us dollar? Or is it canadian than it might be that.

So you're claiming its a lose-lose situation then.

Either NISA doesn't release it at all until the English is done and then people cry.
Or they release it and update it, and then you claim that's laziness for giving options.

You are aware that English folks aren't the only fans in the world right? And some people have been perfectly happy playing this game in English with the fan translation in the meantime.

Releasing it like this sure beats the alternative of not being able to play it since March 2023 and instead waiting solely until July 2024.

It takes time for NISA to translate the game from japanese to english...

Then completely change character dialogue, jokes, personality, lore to whatever they want, cause they don't like what the authors at falcom wrote (of which they openly say and brag about when they get away with it/do it). The reason it takes so long is cause they change so much and and have to turn the game into their "OWN" work to get some validation in their life.

The demo is only a small portion of the game and it is already filled to the brim with changes/outright removal of things the original had to the point i would question if it is even legal to sell the game under the same name/brand at this point.

it is the equivalent of buying bootleg chinese knock off Adidas shoes on some shady corner stand in the back alley under the guise it is the legitimate product... except NISA are charging full price for a game that is 3 years old.

I kinda feel sorry for the people who have experienced this series through XSEED/NISA's re-writes as it destroys/ruins alot of good characters/moments/world building. But there is only so much fans of the series can do... especially when they start threatening court action against people doing a better and quicker job than them for free.

Trails games are objectively some of the longest scripts of any game.
Trails through Daybreak is about 4x as long as the entire lord of the rings (including the hobbit).

Combined with the fact they release the games in Japanese before allowing translators to get them to avoid spoilers and then the delay in contracting out the translation to a publisher like NISA, and you have the reason for the delay in the English.

But it's not laziness.

CLE has crimson already translated in 2 languages so you can state they're lazy at this point. I havent played that 1 yet so cant judge the performance difference between the 2 publishers but NISA surely isn't a fast worker. Cold steel 3 had a lot of issues for me so Im more into the XSEED days than anything NISA, but that can vary for others, idk. But a voice actor group can speak the few parts that are actually voiced in a few weeks and you do not need 15months to translate/port a game when the chinese publisher does it in 4 months

Except for the part where cle gets the script of falcom games while they are still being written. On top of the fact that Chinese and Korean are whey more similar to Japanese than English. They also don't dub there games in any of the languages they release tham in. Not to mention the pc ports they make are absolutely horendus. Do you remember the ys x port they made I she do. Or the fact that to this day they cant figure out how to implement game setting into the game itself instead of a luncher, nor do they know how to make the game run stable. The pc ports from nisa are fine by 5 people which takes te but they always deliver high quality whithout exception. In other words it's no surprise they release tham faster they cut a lot of corners.

its out right impossible to translate japanese to english 1:1 and have it that makes sense. Its called localization where you take it from the orginal lanagage and translate it to where it makes sense in the language they are translating it too. Also Falcom does have to sign off on any changes to the terms.

Why does it take so long 1) falcom doesn't lisence it out until its out in japan 2) kiseki games are very very big in terms of japanese characters so it takes a while to translate all that text then edit it.

Btw the orginal translation of sky FC for psp was out right terrible and that was done by xseed.

There is bloody nothing wrong with the localization. What makes it bad is keeping a literal translation of the japanese text with out edits to where no one understand the heck the game dialogue/voice work and humor.

Some state crimson runs fine so I'll judge on that when im finished with Kuro 1. Even if english is a lot more different than other asian languages, to some1 that speaks both languages it isn't hard so 15 months to release kuro after kuro 2 has already been released is very slow. And I had my fair share of port issues by NISA so i cant praise those ports as much as you can unfortunately.

Translation has never meant 1;1 and most people who know anything about learning another language know that.

In-fact localization as a term does not work in translating english to the entire world for mass consumption cause english used in different areas have different approaches/terms... The issue is in the word, LOCAL.

No one has ever had a problem with people making grammar, dialogue flow naturally into english, nor with finding close approximations as close to the same as possible (you know, the act of translation)

XSEED/NISA do not get even close to this and what they do is in-fact appalling and would get you fired/blacklisted in any sort of professional business setting where accuracy and respect is key. (hell they consistently get grade school level japanese wrong throughout the entire series)

Changing entire character personalities, dialogue, lore, religious connections etc etc is not the job of a translator. Their job is to convey the original text as accurately as possible to fit/flow within said language.

NOT to show us why you were not hired anywhere else for your failed script/writing talents.

Just cause XSEED/NISA don't like the characters/writing that Falcom have done with the series Since Sky FC, doesn't give them the right to change it for everyone else expecting a falcom game.

No less openly brag and celebrate when they do so... Seriously look it up.

TLDR; Stop with the lame ass excuse of direct translation (of which no one is actually asking for) to justify why NISA is selling bootleg back alley games under a more successful brands name.

the ports are indeed not flawless I am aware of that. Nothing ever is. In fact I my self have reported a bug to Ph3 for reverie that wrongly showed button prompts. They were very quick to respond and fix it. You do know that the ports for colds 1 and 2 from Xseed are made by the same people that now do the pc ports for nisa right? Did I wish there were no bugs or glitches? Absolutely but even so the Ph3 ports are of infinitely better quality than most other pc ports I am aware of. Both in stability and features.

A few port examples I encountered of Japanese games:

AI the somnium files:becomes unplayable if it runs above 100fps while also not having a build in frame limiter meaning you have to limit your pc monitor by hand. Not to mention having its extremely limited graphic setting in a luncher.

Ai the somnium files Nirvana initiative:fixes the 100fps problem but removes graphic options including anti aliasing making everything look blurry.

Hifi rush: cutscenes are out of sync with the audio while this was one of the selling points of the game.

Smt3 no turn hd: limited to 30 fps while also having basically no graphics settings.

Tokyo xanadu ex plus : has literally no graphics settings except for screen resolution.

Nier automata : cariës over the graphics settings through steam cloud. And if the device you start the game on has a lower max resolution than the last device you did(such as the stream deck) the resolution will be set to the lowest one possible making the game menus unplayable meaning you have to blindly mess with graphics settings to fix it.

Persona 5 royal:has the same problem as nier automata except it doesn't lower the resolution meaning the game won't even run on steamdeck unless I set the resolution lower on my pc first. Not to mention dunovo drm is included so good luck playing the game offline.

And all of this comes on top of the fact that unlike Ph3 none of those games got patched to adres these glaring problems people encountered. Meanwhile Ph3 pretty consistantly patched the game if people reported issues.
