The AI cheats
This game series started going downhill when they gave the AI unfair advantages in the campaign. I'm not talking about the "events" or "challenges" ... I'm talking about the actual boss planeswalker battles.

The AI draws the SAME cards consistently... while I sit here drawing nothing but lands for 10 turns in a row, or nothing but creatures and no land at all.

At first I thought this was a fluke... The AI just got lucky right? Or maybe I just had a bad draw... but no, it seems to happen over and over and over. It's just not fun anymore.

it actually tells you that this happens and it says look for patterns and devise a strategy to combat it. i've completed all the main campaign and i am part way through the revenge campaign and honestly none of the matches have been massively tough and i don't even play magic alot irl (nobody i know plays it)

If you're talking about any of the Encounters, then no, the A.I. is not cheating. It is simply programmed as a scripted scenario.

If you're talking about a real duel against the A.I., then yes, the A.I. does cheat (especially on the higher difficulties). It is known that the A.I. often tutors cards to their advantage.

Sad, but true. Simply because it is (apparently) difficult to program an A.I. that can make decisions based on the board state, using just the cards in its hand.

Trying to manually unlock the cards causes issues with some of the slower decks that have no synergy. Honestly the only way I deal with it is just reset the duel untill I get a decent starting hand for the slower decks, but even then the revenge campagin is painful, *green deck.

The green deck has no fighting chance against the white one (Avacyn's Glory) in the Revenge campaign. Don't even try it. I'm a pro player, and it took me 10+ tries and a lucky draw to beat the AI. It's the worst match-up in the entire Magic 2014. I know because I've went through the campaign with every deck.

@GB-EX Actually, in one instance in the scripted encounter I came across a moment where I know that the AI was cheating. On the second round of the sewer encounter, the AI always plays the rat card that forces you to discard a card. I had reanimate and Demon of Death's Gate in my hand. My plan was to sacrifice the Demon and reanimate him on my turn, taking the life hit for his mana cost. This is the only time the AI held back the discard rat card in the silly amount of times I've gone through the campaign unlocking cards.

The AI obviously cheats. It gets the same cards, turn 1, almost every time. It *never* gets mana screwed, or ALL mana and no creatures.

^ive played enough to see even the revenge decks get mana screwed. its a cheap win... but what kinda deck has ten mythics...

In the AI matches they get the same cards every time. It is made like that to FORCE you to learn how to adapt and play against certain strategys. Why do we get posts like this 4-5 times a day. Just read a few articles about the game before you buy it. The only AI matches NOT like this is revenge as far as I know...maybe sealed.

That may actually be in the script. I've played other encounters, where I've messed up the A.I.'s tempo and/or board state, and it was forced to make decisions based on the cards in its hand and on its field.

This is how the A.I. should be programmed most of the time, with the occassional tutor on higher difficulties to keep things interesting when needed.

This, I have not heard of. Could you provide the source? I am very interested in reading such an article.

Even if it is true, I feel it's more of an excuse to not program a better A.I., than an actual intended feature. Not all scenarios in gameplay (I'm talking about real life) have the opponent drawing perfectly almost every time. If that were the case, there might as well be an emblem at the beginning of each match that allows you to tutor any card at the beginning of your upkeep.

He's talking about Encounters.

You just suck if you can't beat the AI in this game. They do horrible, predictable plays the entire time.

If i must add references to scripted encounters.....lol

If you bothered to look on the "official" forums and not steam you would see tons of conversations like this:

Also here are some more references:

Honestly I could post links all day. The fact is if you bother to "google" now and then and read some you will find tons of discussions about this...it is probably the #1 most common subject next to resetting sealed decks being a wanted option.

EDIT: I believe the only non-scripted ones would be revenge.

No, the only scripted ones are the Encounters.

What else is there? Sealed and challenges? lol

EDIT: Just played the regular campaign Planeswalkers like the OP mentioned and I am pretty sure it is scripted also. 3 games in a row AG played the same 3 cards on their first 3 turns, in a different order sometimes but I think the draws are the same.

DotP has always been like this. It the one reason why i can't reccomend the game to new people. Its hard to get people interested in magic when the AI plays extremely similair hands every game.
