AVOID MAGIC 2014 FOR SEALED DECK
To all gamers and fans of Magic the Gathering considering playing this game for the Sealed Deck feature... This is not what you think.

Sealed Deck in Magic 2014 provides you with two game "slots" which allow you to create two decks based off of random cards obtained from booster packs. Once you receive your cards you cannot start over with that slot. Those cards become locked in and you will be forced to complete the campaign with them. You CANNOT RESET THIS SLOT.

If you want to play multiplayer Sealed Deck you will be using the cards that were provided in one of your slots. The multiplayer Sealed Deck area uses the SAME slots. Which means not only can you get screwed for the single player campaign, you will also be screwed against real opponents.

You do receive two slots and the option exists to purchase additional slots through Micro-transactions. This is where they try to get you.

One extra slot costs 1.99 and there are three of these extra slots options offered. Additionally you can open up 5 "slot packs" which cost you 8.99 a piece ( a dollar discount of the apparent price of 1.99 a slot). These will provide you with more sealed deck opportunities however these slots are also locked in and you cannot reset them.

Cards in Sealed Deck cannot be traded to other players nor can they be traded between slots. Once a slot is opened and the campain completed you will no longer earn any addition cards for that slot. Essentially this means you're truly at the mercy of the random generator just like the regular MTG players who play online or with paper cards. That has never been the theme of this series ... until now.

I am a long time Magic the Gathering player (20+ years) and I purchased this version of DofP only because of the ability to create my own decks. I wanted the casual single player experience this series is known for with the added fun of opening boosters and creating my own unique decks. You do get that for about 5 minutes when you start each campaign. Then it's over. FOREVER*. It would cost over $30 to get 20 slots of Sealed Deck. And once you use all 20 slots that experience is over ... again.

If you really want the experience of MTG Sealed Deck play I recommend playing MTG Online. This is NOT the best format for Sealed Deck. Otherwise Magic 2014 is exactly like every other version. 10+ premade decks with unlockable cards.

Oh, and for the record... I understand how Sealed Deck works. You play with what you get and you try to make it work. When I beat the campaign I want to start over with a new Sealed Deck set and get the experience again. And again. And again. WITHOUT additional cost. I play this kind of magic for the single player experiece, not the multiplayer one. If I wanted multiplayer with random cards I would just have gone to MTG Online. They should have seperated the multiplayer Sealed and single player Sealed slots with reset for single player.

*You can earn up to three additional boosters in the campaign.

Sealed play was a huge dissapointment... They could so easily bring so much more to this game but as it is atm its just waste of money.

They do have a proper magic online. It's called... Magic Online.

If you could have taken the cards and put them into one pool and then created a deck with cards from all your slots and played them against other people's pooled decks I would be more apt to buy additional slots.

If campaign gets too hard for your sealed deck then just lower the difficulty to mage or something.

The difficulty isn't really the point .. but it is good advice if people get stuck. I was able to finally get through on Planeswalker but it was a pain in the ass.

Have you actually played the proper magic online, if you have, you will know what I mean lol.

People have been craving for a better updated Magic online for years, and we are still waiting. If they want to get new users in, they need to make it more accessable for everyone and not put all these stupid restrictions and annoyances into the game. They were headed in the right direction with the first planeswalker, then they just went backwards after that.
If they made Magic Online look like planeswalker with all the cards you could want, all the fancy UI, more streamlined mechanics, it would be a dream come true. I could play with my mate's during those times when we can't make it down to the store.
Magic needs to move with the times, their still in the stone age.

I like how they did the sealed deck feature, but where's the rest of the game, I want to be able to build a sealed deck, play it, then create a new sealed deck as many times as I like at no cost, why are we paying for the game for, just so we can pay for it again, no thanks. I would rather go down to the store and join a sealed deck tournament for $15 and walk out with real cards in my hand to use in other decks.

i would like to see them add through a patch or something a separate, single player version of sealed where you can reset. I play multiplayer only so i'm just fine with how it is currently but after reading this, i can see how this does take a lot of value out of the game for people who only play single player.
Orcvader Jul 11, 2013 @ 10:10pm
Kinda ranty but you have a point. For single player you should be able to reset after beating it or after XX amount of unsuccessful attempts.

Multiplayer is tricky.

You can't have unlimited, non-penalized sealed deck-building or people would continue until they get a crazy good lucky set of cards. But I agree it should be separate slots for multiplayer sealed.

One suggestion is, besides the option to buy new sealed slots (fair enough, every game has DLC these days) why not allow people to reset them at least with a cooldown? Say, you can reset a sealed deck after losing XX amlount sof times online... Or after WINNING X amount of times... or after PLAYING XX amount of times in multiplayer... Or maybe even time-based.

You can reset and create a new sealed deck after 30 days, per owned slot.

That would be reaosnable and cool.

well I see what your tryng to say Orcvader, but there's a better way. What needs to happen is, when you first get given your sealed deck, before it can be reset, you need to play one match with it online, then it unlocks and can either be reset, or you simply keep it and create a new slot for another deck. Same thing happens again, the new deck gets locked once you have opened it and must play it before you can reset it. This will stop people from just reseting and hoping for a new hand. This in effect, simulates what a real tournament is like, you buy the boosters, make your deck, trade and so forth then you must play with what you have.
Also no other slots can be unlocked until you have played your last opened deck. All slots should be unlimited, if not, you should be allowed to delete unwanted slots and create new ones for free. Can't believe they are charging just to unlock a slot, what a joke. Fair enough we pay for the boosters, but they should be at a reduced price considering they are useless outside the game.

Then they can put tournaments into the game where if you played your sealed deck for the first time online and win, you should be given maybe 1 free booster pack to add to your next slot, hence you pay for 1 less booster.

Its called Magic the Gathering Online.........

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with the two slot limit/pay-wall. It'd be better if you could at least delete your decks and start again, even if you had to pay to open up new slots if you wanted to keep a good deck.
Sentinel Jul 12, 2013 @ 4:38am
LOL. So silly. It's the best format ever created for DOTP. Hours upon hours of fun. I bought all 20 slots. Then bought another copy of the game to keep playing sealed.

It's $1.99 for a new slot people. Good grief, the game is only $9.99. Deception? LMAO

How about inability to grasp reality? How about believing that money grows on trees? How about being cheap? How about wanting everything for free? You people amaze me.
False Prophet Jul 12, 2013 @ 4:45am
this is actually a definative seald format its just like sealed and while i dont necessarily agree of the inability to rest the slots i am pleased with the format over all and do not find it lack luster in the least.
