MTGO is the full experience, they won't even think about selling it through DotP.
And as much as this forces you to like Hearthstone, DoC, Solforge, Scrolls, IW or whatever, MTG was, is and will ever be the only true TCG. Play the restricting money grabber version of play the full version, or none, but do not try to put any of the newly arisen games anywhere on the same line.
And I say this with Pokemon and Yugioh in mind... both went a way that is inexcusable. Magic won by now without any kind of doubt.
DotP is more like a "teaser" of the real game, if you like the principle and want more/full customization and bigger card pool, go MtGO or reallife-MtG. That's what this game is made for, introduce people to the world and rules of Magic and get them addicted (and to allow for some easy set-up casual-gaming).
The big point I am still happy to make is that MTG IRL (in real life)(The trading card game you can actually touch) = The Best. :)
Like others have said, while other tcg's can be entertaining, mtg is the definitive game that always has me coming back to it, I intend to enjoy it through the means that I can.
I bought this years Magic game late, because I didn't realise it had sealed deck campaign, and I thought it was the same game as every other year, I didn't even plan on buying it. But my friends told me there was slight customisation and when it went on sale I bought it.
In saying this, if next years game is the same as this years game, I won't buy it.
Sadly, that would never happen since the number one priority for Wizards is to use Duels as a means of promoting the physical TCG, not to kill it off. Why keep playing & thus paying in real life when you can achieve the same fun with Duels? The physical Magic TCG is where the money's at & Hasbro/Wizards know that better than anybody. LOL.
Sealed Play was already a big concession with the common complaints (pay for more slots, stuck with the same cards per slot, no swapping cards between slots etc.) all purposely factored in to ensure the viability of the physical TCG while still keeping Duels interesting.
So i think to really customise Decks like in real, the engine is not good enough to sort out any possible ability or any thing else.
What would be nice for an update is something like, cards the still excistes and none restricted in actual rule Book, from dimension one. Like a Nightmare Picture from Dimension one.
So the game is solid and you never can compare real and CPU, to repeat myself too much Cards out there to storage anyone into this Game.
I´m play Magic since 3.Dimension, and has stopped playing. I could tell you, your deck would never be completed or you oversee combination on the mass of Cards.
Play a real 1.0 game in real, you will find Decks with mixed cards from 5-6 different Dimensions or Years.
It's such a cop-out of an excuse and an answer as to why the game shouldn't be made better or improve.
I enjoy the game, and yes it could be better. There are many things that could improve the game. I would love to see the introduction of planeswalker cards (but I'm not holding my breath). Hoping that commander is the new formay for 2015, but might have to use the premade decks or construct new ones. Yes there are many improvements that can be made. If you think it's a cop-out to mention it's more a training tool, go ahead and think that. It's been mentioned time and again that's it's main purpose. I believe thay leave out options so that if you want the full experience you'd have to go out and buy actual cards or join MTGO. Either way, I'll still purchase the next DotP as well as real cards. The game is still fun for us who've been playing since magic came out.
Not sure if it is worth to even acknowledge your opinion, but well.. it's not an excuse or cop-out just because some people here realize that DotP is not meant to be more, this way it fits best into WotC/Hasbro's business calculations.
Ofc I would love a game with fully customizable decks, bigger card pool or even regular updates on the card/deck pool instead of complete new games, like anyone else here (and especially for that low price), but that is what we want, not what WotC/Hasbro wants. Deal with it.
The DOTP 2014's promo Scavenging Ooze goes for around $10 retail.
The only way I can see them adding full customization to magic games they release on steam is if they started charging a monthly fee for the game to combat profit losses from people from buying the physical card game.
