Multiplayer secret costumes made permanent?

I've been searching around Youtube and noticed pretty much every video I found showcasing the multiplayer Battle mode in PC/Xbox/PS3 had characters using their ugly secret costumes, such as Sonic's weird pink jumpsuit. That didn't happened in the Gamecube version of the game (I didn't even know how to unlock them back then) and I didn't noticed any user input for them to be selected anywhere I see it, so I'm asking: Are the secret costumes changes made permanent once you've unlocked them, on this port?

Just checked, and no, you can toggle the special costumes, though they are unlocked by default.

Thanks for verifying! I wasn't even aware of these secrets when I had the Gamecube version, so I was a little worried. Thanks!

On Gamecube, getting A rank in all Sonic/Shadow missions would unlock their respective costumes. Sonic's special costume would make all his powerups Sonic Wind, while Shadow's would make all his powerups a half-length Chaos Control. Judging by the video, these "buffs" are still available for the alternate costumes.

Got it. Is there any change for Tails/Eggman and Knuckles/Rouge costumes, too?
