SA2 Story
I was reading the Maria's revenge creepypasta when I thought to myself, "How much of the whole story may have been cut out of the final game?" It is well-known that the creepypasta is false, but it does invite the question. What are some ways to fill in the story a little more? What made Shadow think that Maria wanted him to exact revenge on humanity? What drove Gerald to making the eclipse cannon if the first time he felt betrayed by GUN was after he went to prison? He could not have made the eclipse cannon from prison island, right? What about Gerald could have influenced Eggman's employment of robots instead of humans? Could a director's cut of SA2 exist with some of these questions answered? I hope. Let the people theorize...

If you even bother to play the game and read everything, I think most of these questions are answered through the game while other ones are left more or less hinted. Maria never wanted Shadow to get revenge. It was kinda Shadow's choice to get revenge for what happened to her. He liked her so I think it makes sense. Something like that.

Also, according to some people's theories, Gerald did make the eclipse cannon while he was in prison. I'm not sure how but I can believe it. The guy is that crazy but he remains a damn great genius. lol...

I'm just not sure what you mean by the influence of Gerald onto Eggman to use robots. He always used machines and such all the times I saw him so yeah.

As far as Shadow's motives go, I think it stinks that we are supposed to believe that Shadow simply misunderstood what Maria wanted or that he was so blinded by how much he hated her death. I would have liked some more to it. Possibly a paper trail of a sort, a body of evidence that, if seen from shadow's perspective, would show how Shadow could think that Maria wanted him to destroy the humans. Maybe it has something to do with NIDS, but that is not even in the games. Only the manuals and Sonic X.

Well, I could be wrong but I think Shadow loved Maria. Sadly, I don't even remember what Maria tells him before she disappears. I'd need to see that cutscene again but I remember that he cared a lot about her. If we look at Shadow's nature, I'd say it is accurate that he wants revenge for her death. I think he even mentions revenge once or twice.

The reason why Shadow was seeking revenge reflects his partial lost memory which he regained after Amy's discussion with him. At that moment he remembered the dearest words told to him as it went "Shadow! Please, I beg you... Give them a chance to be happy."

Nice find. It sounds like what I remember... Which also explains why Shadow helped Sonic thereafter.

Oh! to answer your question of why the cannon was made in the first place, the answer is in the game shadow the hedgehog. Gerald origanally made the cannon to prevent an astroid brought on by a catyclsmic event from destroying the earth before he was sent to prison.

I believe I heard it somewhere that Gerald brainwashed Shadow somehow to exact revenge. I'm not sure.

That makes sense, and that is probably what was intended now that I think about it. Still, I always thought that Shadow should have those memories in tact, rather than needing recall. I always thought Shadow was in some sort of cryogenic freezer like Fry in Futurama. If he lived those fifty years, what you said makes sense. I don't think this whole scenario was planned out very well by the writers.

Maria got shot, and Shadow got captured and locked in Prison Island for 50+ years. Do you really think he would let G.U.N. get away with that?

It was not evident that Maria was shot by Gun until Shadow the Hedgehog, which also states that Shadow was there when she was shot. This conflicts with SA2 and the fact that ALIENS were a plot element in this series led SEGA to never mention Shadow the Hedgehog again. I believe they are stealthily trying to scrap Shadow and blowing up part of the moon from the timeline. I've been trying to work solely with SA2 for details and otherwise non-Shadow related sources. I also considered this before I thought about how SEGA treated Shadow as a game, so thanks still for the input.

Youtuber SomecallmeJohnny also pointed out how Gerald went from giant lizard to tiny hedgehog. Probably in his SA2 review, but I am not positive.
