Fusion's Chao Editor 2.3 - A chao editor for Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2

Greetings.

I'm an administrator on Chao Island[chao.hippotank.com], which you may or may not have heard of. It's a website and forum for chao from the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Advance games. I have developed a program for modifying the chao in Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 for the PC, and I would like to share it with this community.

I actually made the first version of this program in January 2011, but that version was only for the non-Steam PC version of SADX. In this newer version that I've released today, I added support for the Steam version of SADX, as well as the recently released SA2B.

Features
For a full list of features, check out the features page[chao.tehfusion.co.uk] on my website. I'll give you a basic summary here, though.

This editor supports Sonic Adventure DX (original 2004 release), Sonic Adventure DX (2011 Steam release), and Sonic Adventure 2 (2012 Steam release). It lets you edit almost every chao-related setting, including (but not limited to) the following:

• Chao ageing speed.
• Second evolutions.
• Happiness.
• Number of reincarnations.
• Remaining adult lifespan.
• Personality.
• Health and sickness.
• Emotions and actions, such as crying, sleeping, or jumping with joy.
• Bonds with the different characters.
• Intelligence and luck stats.
• Learnt animal behaviours.
• Learnt classroom skills.
• Toys.
• Breed.
• Medal worn on chest.
• DNA.
• Collected animals that are in the gardens.
• Fruits that are in the gardens.
• Hats that are in the gardens.
• Seeds that are in the gardens.
• The items for sale in the Black Market.

Finally, you can also right-click on any of your chao in the editor to get a special menu. This menu will let you cut, copy, and paste your chao between slots, delete your chao, or create a new egg in the slot. It will also let you export your chao to a .chao file, which can serve as a permanent backup or allow you to share it with your friends! You can also import chao from .chao files into any slot you wish. This way, you don't need to replace your entire garden save file to borrow somebody else's chao. These functions also allow you to transfer chao between SADX and SA2B on the PC.

System requirements
My program only really has two system requirements.

Operating system: For the greatest user experience, you should be running either Windows Vista or Windows 7. However, you can still use this with Windows XP, as long as you have Service Pack 3 installed. It might not look as good, but it'll work.

.NET Framework: As this program is written for the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile, you will need that installed. It's a small download, far smaller than the full .NET Framework 4.0. If you are using the setup exe (which is recommended), you don't have to worry about it; it'll all be taken care of for you. If you are using the zip archive, you can download the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile here[www.microsoft.com].

Have any opinions? Have any feedback to give me? Found a bug? Just post here or contact me through any other method. It's always possible that there are some bugs; however, I have thoroughly tested it and haven't yet found any. This program will be regularly updated as bugs are reported and fixed, or as new hacking discoveries are made.

I know you have to rename something to sonic2app, but I'm really not sure what. I've tried running everything as administrator, too, and the program still can't find my game. I have SA2 (haven't downloaded the gamecube DLC) and I'm running it on Windows 8. Any help would really be appreciated!

Fusion's Chao Editor 2.3 released!

I have just released version 2.3 of my editor. This new version adds compatibility with the BetterSADX mod, as well as bringing along various other fixes and improvements.

The full list of changes is below.

Features:

• Added support for the BetterSADX mod.
  
• Added options to create legitimate Amy, Knuckles, and Tails character chao, using official Japanese chao data files! Thanks to Air Conditioner/Fluxedo and DarkyBenji from Chao Island for providing the files[chao.hippotank.com].
  
• Now detects Sonic Adventure 2 even when its main executable file has been renamed to "Launcher.exe".

Fixes:

• Implemented complete support for chao names. In previous versions, only English characters were truly supported. Now, every symbol available in the game is fully supported by the editor, such as Japanese katakana characters.
  
• Fixed a rare bug where using the numeric input boxes could cause the program to crash.

Improvements:

• Improved the look and feel of the GUI on all version of Windows, but especially on Windows 10.
  
• Added menu buttons next to each chao in the chao list. These buttons provide an alternative way of accessing the right-click menu.
  
• Added keyboard support to the chao list. After selecting a chao, you can now use the Ctrl+N, Delete, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+V keyboard shortcuts to manipulate chao.
  
• The text and numeric input boxes now select their contents automatically when receiving focus. This makes it quicker and easier to type in new values.
  
• Improved the help and information text on the chao stats page.

Known issues:

• Deleting a chao while it is in the kindergarten classroom will create a glitched slot in the classroom. This effectively reduces the number of classroom slots that you have available. This will be fixed in a future version of the program.

Your tool saves me so much trouble in terms of monitoring and etc. Also great to import/export Chao on a whim.

I have one request though. Is there any chance of making it possible to edit a garden's selection of toys WITHOUT changing the race progress (e.g. having a TV in the neutral garden without winning the high end races)? I've googled everywhere and it seems no one has even bothered to attempt this, despite how it's the one thing that can't be transferred in and out of a save file easily using the editor.

Having that kind of functionality would be great tbh, as nearly everything else can be unlocked/modified with codes/your tool/other such things, but garden toys are impossible to unlock short of actually winning the high end races, or downloading a 100% complete Chao Garden save and then proceeding to delete all of the Chao in it and replacing them with your ones via importing; both require the records to be tampered with, which I'm trying to avoid, since I'd like to clear the races and set records myself, but keep the toys unlocked.

That has actually been one of the things on my to-do list for a long time. I've always planned to implement it at some point, but I've never gotten around to it, and nobody's requested it until now. I'll see if I can include it in the next version.

Yes, it will let you do that. You can use the program to edit the items for sale in the Black Market, adding whatever theme items you want to get. If you can't afford the items, then you can also use the program to edit the number of rings you have.

Unfortunately, the program doesn't support this feature yet, but it's on the to-do list.

I don't suppose you have any plans or that it is by chance possible to get this working with emulated versions? Only way they allow chao transfers between DX and battle is with another emulator that apparently hangs or near-hangs when hooked up to Dolphin.

most likly not, I don't think they condone piracy.
