For all you Chao Garden lover: Stats Influence is important for evolution!
Didn't feel like making a guide because I don't want to type an essay. I will put the video that I'm baseing this on below but he's the quick story.

Basically, the more animals or chao drives you give to your chao that is in a specific category will determine what will be your Chao's 1st and 2nd evolution. Your chao always start at 0 influence, you either need 20 animals or 40 chaos drives to place him in a specific stat.

Speed cancels out Power (vice versa)
Swim cancels out Fly (vice versa)

Speed: Green
Power: Red
Flight: Purple
Swim: Yellow

Black, Golden and Blue animals are really uneffective because they apply random stats influence.

Swim is the most dominant.
Running and Power are the same level of dominance but lower than swim.
Fly is the recessive stat.

What that mean is: A Running+Swim stat chao will always be a Swim type. Same with power BUT a Running+Fly chao will always be a Running-type. (same with power)

Now, what IS the 2nd Evolution

Once your Chao evolves into his 1st evolution, his stats influence resets to 0. Making him a Run/Neutral (or whatever) chao. Eventually he will start becoming an adult, his stats influence during that Child -> Adult growth will affect his first evolution's appearance, which we call "2nd Evolution".

Example: Run/Run chao will look more evolve in that stat but a Run/Power will look more fierce with the speedy look.

Here's the video, it's 14 minutes. It explains everything but with visual effects.

Good luck!

Blue and Gold animals do add stats: Blue increases Intelligence (which helps in Chao races at picking the right object), and the Gold animals increase Luck stat (which makes it less likely to find a jack-in-the-box in Chao races)

Black animals add a ton of stat point, without taking away (The Bat adds a lot to the Flying stat, for instance)

But, as for evolution, wouldn't it have been easier to just say "It runs off the highest stat"? So if your Chao has a high Flying stat (much higher than the other stats), then they'll be a Flying chao.
Whereas if the stats are all roughly balanced, then it will be a Neutral adult Chao.

That's somewhat false. All animals gives equal amount of intelligence and luck. Some more than others. I probably only gave like 10 blue animals and 100+ on others and my Chao is at Maximum intelligence. His luck is pretty good too.

Blue, gold and black all influence the chao to evolve into a random type.

I guess that'd be a really easier way to put it but I think you missed out on what I was saying. If, for example, both Running/Power and Swim is at the highest they can get, Swim will always come out first because it's dominant over them.

The opposite can be applied to Flying, since I think it's the most recessive stats. But of course, THAT IS if both stats are the highest or on the same level. If Flying and Running have pretty good influence but Flying is at the maximum, then yes; It will become a Fly-type.

For some reason, my chao just evolved into a flying type instead of a running type, even though running was significantly higher. Like, it was 99 and flying was 60something. Anyone got any clue why that would happen?

Did you by any chance give you chao a dose of Power animals/drives? Because if you gave enough power stuff to your chao, it might have negated your Run influence into Neutral, giving the chance for your Chao to become a Fly-type.

And by the way, your regular stats (Run Lv99 for example) does not equal influence. A chao with 99 Running can still become a Power-type, even if it's Power Level is 20.

STAT INFLUENCE IS SEPARATE FROM STAT LEVELS.
So while Skeleton dogs add a lot of run EXP, they give random influence, so if it's the only thing you give to your chao, it will most likely become normal/none/stamina type.

Since it's random, if the RNG goes a certain way and you use a lot of animals that aren't tied to a specific stat you could end up with anything.

Dude, why did you revive a thread from over 3 YEARS AGO?
I had long forgotten this thread.
(Of course, I also forgot what everyone had said here, too...)

Personally, I just beef up the stat I want the Chao to be based on, and don't particularly bother with the ones I don't want.
So if I want a Running/Running Chao, I keep his speed much higher than everything else. Which is good, as there's no way I can max out all his stats before he dies.
