black screen crash / does nothing on startup fix for linux

okay. i have wasted an hour of my life trying to fix this stupid furry game but yuji naka's anti-pc warlock powers have precluded me. trying to launch the game via the steam client does nothing, and trying to launch it directly from a mod loader or the game files also does nothing. is there hope? fear not. there is. and i shall document my findings for the weary traveler with nowhere else to turn.

scroll down. see where it says "launcher crashes when trying to start the game"? it tells you to manually create config files. these go in the "config" directory wherever sa2 is installed. if you don't know how to do this ask your momma. obviously change the settings in userconfig.cfg to whatever you need them to be. i've heard fullscreen doesn't work with this game so probably change that to zero too.

this is the only thing that worked for me. for reference i'm using linux mint and launching via the SA mod manager and using proton 9.0-3. if this doesn't work for you then good luck, and if it does then paypal me $500.
