First, could you please make use of spoiler tags? Some of us are watching the episodes as they come out in the U.S., and don't want anything spoiled.
A number of people that have watched the show couldn't enjoy episode 44 because some people decided to spoil the big surprise, ruining the "awesomeness factor".
(Luckily, I wasn't spoiled, and nearly spat my drink out when I saw the big scene)

Second...wasn't Shadow originally a villain?
Besides, in the game he was shown to be under mind control, which doesn't really count as a character change, does it?

Third, Sega has stated that Sonic Boom is a parallel universe, which means events from the main series games didn't happen. Meaning Shadow may not even know Rouge (she might not even exist at all in the Boom universe, though I'd be surprised).

It also means that Shadow may not have gone through his whole "putting my past behind me" part, or the "forgive the world for what they did to Maria" part, either.
That would radically change his character, wouldn't it?

I liked him in SA2 and Heroes. Then his own game was released and... he just became an unlikable edgelord. I mean, he was kind of edgy before, but Shadow the Hedgehog brought it to new heights.

Oh, yeah. I forgot he was even in that. In 06, he was probably the only competent character, unlike everyone else.

He's not even in Sonic games anymore. The last one I remember him in was Generations and he had, what, one boss fight and ONE line?

And that line was basically slap in the face to Shadow fans. I don't know what's going on with Sega right now, but story writer should really take lessons from SA games. Hell, he even said he haves no idea about stories from previous games at all

I don't like him either. It's a redundant character. Bad guy who turns good, we already had Knuckles for that.
I know it's a shonen trope and it works well on stuff like one piece or dragon ball, but here... I don't know. Maybe it's the design.
Anyway, I'm happy people like him. There's plenty of Sonic products without him I can enjoy.

I agree, Metal Sonic was already a doppleganger rival and the "evil twin" cliche is so overused, Knuckles also existed and finally Gamma already was a villain who sacrified itself.

Bringing him back in Heroes because the fans asked was a mistake.
