There's actually an exploit of sorts that allows you to get rings quickly with little effort if that's what you're willing to do.

1) First, buy an expensive item from the Black Market, and put it into your Chao Garden.
2) Leave the Chao Garden from the lobby so it autosaves your progress.
3) Go back into the Chao Garden, take the item you bought and sell it.
4) Once you get your rings from selling the item, go into the Options and change any of the game's settings. Once you exit the Options menu, the game will autosave.
5) Alt+F4 out of the game, relaunch it and repeat steps 3-4.

The reason this works is because when the game autosaves after changing the options, it only autosaves your main file but not the Chao file, so you'll still have your rings from selling the item but the Chao file thinks you never sold it due to that file never being updated in the process hence why it'll still be there when you come back.

This only works in the Steam, 360 and PS3 versions as they added the Options to the pause menu.

You've got the Steam version already, so this exploit I mentioned will work on the version you're playing. It's only on Dreamcast and GameCube where this exploit won't work as you can't access the options during gameplay, though the GameCube version has a different method.

By 360, I meant XBOX 360.

Yes, it can be any item. The reason why I specifically mentioned more expensive items is because they'll sell for more money so you'll make more rings quicker.

My tried and true method is to just play the first mission of City Escape over and over and over. You can easily get 200-300 rings per run without much trouble.

If I'm doing it organically, this is how. City Escape is easy and has lots of rings, and it goes by really quickly so I can run it very rapidly.

If I'm willing to use exploits, then I'm willing to cheat. And if I'm willing to cheat, then I'm using a save editor or a trainer.

I just do mission 3 of City Escape so I don't have to restart the level.

The old gamecube method i did was sell eggshells of shiny rare chao. Buy 2, mate them over and over and sell the shell for a good 5k i think. then nuke the chao. rise repeat with mating.
