I have had it... THIS NEEDS A FIX
This is not the first time I am writing regarding this issue, but now I have had it, and this needs to be adressed by the team who ported Sonic Adventure 2 to Steam/PC.

There is a known bug that randomly appears while playing the game. This bug freezes the image, but the sound continues for approximately 10 – 20 seconds. On Windows 8.1 my screen image would reappear after 20 seconds, but now on Windows 10, the entire screen can not recover, and I am forced to make a hard reset on my PC, since Sonic Adventure 2 ruins the connection between the monitor and the machine, so the screen will tell me that there is no connection between the two devices.

According to PC Gaming Wiki, it is a known issue and it remains unresolved.

(Under the section Issues unresolved)

I have tried everything I could possibly do as a customer:

- Lowered my monitor’s refresh rate from 144 hz to 60 hz
- Lock the game’s framerate to 60 by seperate nvidia tweaking tools
- Disabled Steam Overlay
- Played the game in Window mode
- Tried several different controllers
- Asking on the Steam forums
- Writing to your support team about half a year ago
- Tested it on my friends PC’s, but I am the only one with this issue
- Looked for new drivers for my GPU
- Tried different Operating Systems (Win 8.1 and Win 10)
- Tweaked nVidia control panel settings exclusively to Sonic Adventure 2
- Manually set the amount of CPU cores (affinity) used by the game through a seperate programming script

I have done everything in my power to fix it on my own, but it is a known issue, and it needs to be adressed or some kind of refund would be in it’s place, since I bought this before the Steam-refund-policy.

I tried playing the game on two of my friends PC’s as mentioned, and one used a 60 hz monitor and the other used a 144 hz monitor just like me. Both of these PCs ran a Intel core i5 processor and not i7 like I do.
Both performed without issues.

I suspect it could be a CPU or GPU related problem.. since my hypothesis regarding refresh rate on my monitor was the culbrit has been debunked after thoroughly testing.

My specs are:
Intel core i7-4790K @ 4.00 GHz
MSi GeForce 780 TI
MSi Z97 gaming motherboard
8 GB RAM
500 SSD
2 TB Hard disc drive (where the game is installed)

download nvidia control panel profile inspector
in the profile bar paste this C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure 2\sonic2app.exe
go down to frame rate limiter and set to 60 fps and save
and u can play it at 60 fps with your 144 hz monitor

Yep, that did it. My 144hz monitor was causing the framerate of the game to go crazy.

I can't remember this happening before so thanks (I swear I've played SA2 on this computer since getting this monitor).

That is the EXACT problem I'm having. The game freezes/crashes, but the sound keeps going for a little while after. There is no output describing the issue, the screen just completely freezes and I have to turn off my PC. When exactly is the game crashing? It's always in the middle of levels for me. I'm fairly certain it's a GPU issue, since the GPU usage spikes from 1-2% to 100% when the game crashes.
