Controller not working
I tried using the Switch GameCube and PS4 controller, but it won't work. I'm pretty sure I have it selected for the controller in the launcher and when I first open the game, I press start and I successfully skip the intro animation but when I get to the home screen I can't get to file select.

Do I not have the controller selected for the launcher? It works for my other games just fine.

I'm going through a rough time right now and could really use some time playing this awesome game from my childhood. Help would be greatly appreciated. Please provide images for guides if you can. I do not fully understand Steam and could use as many details as possible.

The game launcher has you manually switch from Keyboard to Controller.

Gamecube and Switch are probably more difficult to work I assume. But PS4 should work.

Also recommend getting the mod loader if that doesnt work.

You place the zip in the same files as the game (Right click game name on Steam, Properties, Installed Files, Browse). Then extract and run the SAModManager. Make sure it is then set to run with SA2 specifically since it can also be used for 1.

How exactly do I do that? I thought I already did that. Either it didn't work, or I did it wrong.

Would be when you open the game and the launcher window opens where you set resolution and controller options. You have to switch the default Keyboard to Controller, and the Save and Play.

I can't open the launcher. It takes me straight to the game.

Right click game name in steam library, Properties, Installed Files, Browse, Launcher.exe

That should open it directly.

There is no controller option. Just keyboard.

The reason why your controller isn't working is because the PC port of SA2 only supports XInput controllers (e.g. Xbox 360/One/Series Controller). You can try wrapping XInput into your controller through enabling Steam Input for your controller, but I personally would recommend installing SA2 Input Controls, which is essentially the Input Mod for the first Sonic Adventure game and it supports a wider range of controllers through SDL2. It also lets you remap keyboard controls. You will need to install SA Mod Manager into your game's installation folder and the SA2 Input Controls mod through the manager or by using the 1-click install feature on GameBanana.

It's not working. It says it can't find the mod. I put it in the right folder. What's going on?
The thing is, my pS4 and GameCube Switch controllers work fine with other games I play.
Why won't they work with this game?

Did you set the Mod Manager to specifically look for SA2’s file path? And then place the unzipped mod into the new Mods folder that was added to your SA2 files? You then check the mod in the Mod Manager itself, and then launch the game through there too.

It’s a 2011 port. So newer controllers have issues without either setting up Steam Input or using mods.
