how do I get my chao out of its egg?

IIRC you just have to wait it out.

You could also throw it against the wall but there are downsides to that, like they usually tend to be all frowny for life.

You can wait it out, throw it against a wall, or pick it up and hold the B button to cuddle it for a while. It hatches pretty quick after that.

if you pick up the egg and hold down the b button while moving your joystick/direction keys to one side for like 5-10 seconds and put the egg back down itll wiggle and hatch
you can also wait it out or throw it against a wall (which doesnt have any downsides from my research, it just makes the guy get frowny for like 2 seconds after hatching and then no sour feelings to your character or anything at all)
