I can't hit the cockpit on the first boss

I can't for the life of me get Sonic high enough to hit the cockpit. I have been at this for 20 minutes now. I am using a gamecube controller. god save me from my nightmare

I think there were crates you could jump on that give you enough hight?

Once you jump, press the button AGAIN in midair while aiming at the cockpit. If the boss is on the ground you should THEN be able to just reach it. Keep doing that until you beat it.

And if you run out of boxes to jump on, you can wait for him to land on the ground to hit him right before he starts shooting missiles.

In my experience you need to be quite close, and press jump again at the top of the jump, with minimal delay. The jump curves, and the hitbox is weird - it's super easy to yourself hurt from dashing too soon.
(Did it after it finished the rocket barrage from the ground)

the thing that helped me beat it was holding the jump button then pressing it again, but i hope youve beaten it by now

hold j, youll hover in the air, and then let go facing the cockpit, you should hit it

You have to hold your jump button and then use the homing attack.

hold the jump button for longer than you usually would then jump again to attack. That boss absolutely fried my brain cells when I first played.

This game years ago learned me one thing.
Never pay for games after long time I tried this game one agin and I still can't beat first boss.

Maybe action platformers just arent for you or you need practice. Which is fine, everyone starts off a genre being bad at it initially.

The first boss isnt difficult, but it does have platformer rules where you need to hold jump to go higher and that can throw someone off who hasnt played many platformers before. Also the rule where if you have 1 ring you cant loose, but thats only a Sonic thing.
