Which version do YOU think is best?
I know a lot of people are gonna say PC version because "mods" but honestly there aren't really a ton of great mods available for this game. Mostly just graphical improvements & fixes. So, I'm wondering what everyone else thinks is the best version of Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle).

For me it's in this order.

#1 Gamecube Version
Mostly because it's the most nostalgic version for me. Not because it's the best or most refined but because it's the one I had as a kid & the one I played the most & with friends growing up. Rebought the GCN version recently & it's still a very good version of the game, as long as you have either OEM component cables or an HDMI adapter for the system. Otherwise, probably not the best version for most people.

#2 Xbox 360/PS3/Xbox One Versions
Second Place going to the most recent console versions, which is also available via Backwards Compatibility on Xbox One. Only available digitally, however. In all honesty, these versions aren't that bad. I've been playing it again recently because I gave my nephews a preowned 360 & let them use my library. It's basically the entire Gamecube version running at I think 1080p. Also, playing this on an Xbox One via back compatibility. Only issue I've had is some random graphical glitches that happen after the system has been in sleep mode & requires a system reboot to fix when playing on the Xbox One. No issues have occurred on the 360 hardware. And when playing the game the controls seem better than they are on the PC version & feel similar to how they felt on the Gamecube, so that's the main reason why this is above it. Also, the color palette is more correct. Shadows are darker & the game just overall looks & runs better than the vanilla PC version.

#3 PC Version
For me, the PC version is last because it's the worst version by far unless you mod it. It's still playable Vanilla but it randomly glitches out, freezes, & just looks the worse when compared to all the other versions. Also, the controls are worse in this version. Playable, but just worse overall. Sensitivity of the joysticks is higher than all other versions by default & requires the use of x360ce or something similar to fix. The colors & shadows don't look right either. If you play Eggman's stage where you have to shoot the robots to create light everything's already pretty bright. Other versions it's too dark to see very far but you can clearly see the robots in the distance on PC but just can't hit them because it's supposed to be dark. Other colors seem a bit washed out when compared to Xbox or GCN. Overall, not a bad version but it is the worst of the bunch.

I would have put the Dreamcast version on here, but I never had or played it. Only had the first adventure game on DC back in the day, but even then I think the Gamecube version of that one is the best out of all versions.

So, what's your preferred version? Even though I'm asking on Steam & the majority will probably say PC.

I would actually prefer playing this on GameCube as well, though for a few different reasons:

1. I'm playing it on the Wii with component cables and it still looks amazing on my HDTV. Sadly no progressive scan since here in Australia we use the PAL region and PAL GameCube games never had 480p (it did support 60hz though) but at the very least it looks way better than with composite cables, so I'd actually suggest playing that version on the Wii.

2. Memory cards - This was what I loved about the PS1 and PS2, and the same applies for the GameCube. Imagine, you have siblings that also want to play, but don't want to share your chao garden data. You can buy them seperate memory cards so they can use theirs when it's their turn. You can even bring the memory cards to a friend's place and use your chao to battle or race your friend's chao on their memory card, which I believe you cannot do on any other version that isn't Dreamcast.

3. You can use the GCN to GBA cable to transfer your chao to the Tiny Chao Garden if you have a copy of Sonic Advance, which I thought was a very neat way to implement the Dreamcast VMU features into the GCN version in some way. The PSN, XBLA and Steam versions do not support this feature at all whatsoever. The PS3 version doesn't even let you transfer them to a PSP which was a missed opportunity.

Yeh, I opted to get GCN & component cables for the GBA player, plus the cables are a collector's item now & will probably keep going up in value. Wii with component cables is probably the next best way to do it.

Memory cards have basically been replaced with hard drives, so if you wanted to swap chao gardens you could still do it I think. The 360's hard drive is removable & you could use external Hard Drives on the Xbox One & bring your chao garden with you that way, as long as you have internet access & can connect to your Xbox Live account you can play your games on any Xbox One. You can even sync your controller to your account so all you have to do is plug in your controller & hard drive then you're done. I love the convenience factor that Xbox gives people with stuff like this. Of course, without internet it becomes less convenient which is why I think physical media is still important. That's another reason why I rebought a copy of the GCN version.

As for the VMU functionality with the GBA, I think that's a feature not many people cared about. It's still neat that it's doable & I do still have my original copy of Sonic advance & a GBA/GCN link cable if I ever wanted to use it but I don't think I'll ever be using that feature ever again. Still, it was neat caring for my chao in school during class back then.

The mods on PC make this an easy answer. It's also been forever since I've played the GameCube version, but it's in a box in my closet... somewhere. Still, it's hard to beat the mods and how much more enjoyable some of them make the game. Especially Light Dash on Y... I would go nuts having to use B as light dash on any of the other versions haha

Depends. Without mods and patches it would be

1) Gamecube.

2) Dreamcast

3) PC

4) Everything else.

With patches and mods to fix the PC issues to make it more like the Gamecube and Dreamcast it would be

1) PC

2) Gamecube

3) Dreamcast

4) Everything else

1) Dreamcast
2) Gamecube
3) PC

PC version's got mods, which is nice, but it's a pretty bad port on its own.
