Mystic Melody Portals Not Appearing
Hey. I'm having a problem with Sonic Adventure 2. For Mystic Melody shrines, whenever you play the melody(I have the Mystic Melody upgrade unlocked for all characters) it can activate a range of things. Sometimes it makes a portal appear. For some reason, this portal for me is completely invisible. I have the Gamecube version of Sonic Adventure 2, and Mystic Melody portals appear there. But on my Steam version, the portals are invisible. They're still there, but I have to walk around a lot before i'm sucked into them, as they appear to be invisible for me, so it's hard to find out where they are. And whenever a Mystic Melody makes platforms appear, those show up. It's just that the portals are invisible for me. Does anyone else have the same issue?

I have the same issue and I believe it's somekind of a graphical error...

I have that problem too. If you go to Pumpkin Hill, the flames from the statues should be invisible too, if we have the same problem. Also, whenever I go to level select I always start out at the level I played for the last time a few months ago before the problem started happening, which could be a coincidence but it could also mean that it's more than just a graphical error. It started after installing the City Escape trolley fix, but that could also be a coincidence and after removing the patch it still doesn't work. Although the trolley glitch works without a patch now for me, so at least that's good.

I have the same thing! This makes it so I can't get all A Ranks!

It shouldn't be that problematic. If you don't see anything else appearing after a mystic melody, there should be a portal nearby. If you can't find it, you can look up on Youtube where exactly it is. It should be easy to memorize and get an A rank.

Or did you think they just didn't exist at all? Because that's not true, they're just invisible. You can still use them like normal.

Seems like I have the same issue... Even on the Dry Lagoon, where Rouge finds her Mystic Melody, I couldn't find the portal inside that room, it became frustrating to fly around the room with no results.
Isn't there any fix for this?

It seems there is no fix for this, and a lot of people, including me are having trouble with it. Hopefully one day SEGA acknowledges this glitch and releases a patch for it..

That sucks :/ I was playing right now and I kept dying with Shadow in the Sky Rail stage, it seems like the fire that comes out of the skulls is invisible too... I guess it's related to the same glitch.

Yup, fire from skulls is invisible too.

Ok. I am having the same problem. However, the portals are there. The sound will but the portals themselves are invisible. However, I don't know why the portals won't show up. It is a possible bug from using mods.

has a patch or a mod been released to fix this yet?

This'll fix itself if you rename the Launcher executable to something else and sonic2app.exe to Launcher.exe

To fix this you all can simply right click on desktop, select graphics settings or something like it then search for the option to disable optimized graphics for application. The portals, and also skull fires will appear. (but city escape will have visual glitches so whenever going back to city escape just enable again!) At least this works with me!

Do you have an Intel graphics card? As a sidenote, the missing graphics are all particle effects.

See point 2.1 on the SA2 Troubleshooting Guide[gamebanana.com], which mentions that the missing effects are caused by an "Application Optimal Mode" setting with integrated graphics cards that should be turned off. Similarly, for Windows 10 users with this issue, add the game's executable (sonic2app .exe) to Nvidia Control Panel/Profile Inspector (or whichever is similar for AMD GPUs) and set its performance mode to "prefer maximum performance".

Another thing about Windows 10 is that if you have both an integrated graphics card and a dedicated graphics card, Windows 10 no longer lets programs (i.e. NVIDIA Control Panel) set the preferred graphics card, you have to do it in Windows 10's Graphics Settings.
