Game runs TOO FAST!
It's actually kind of hilarious even though the game is difficult to play now.

I recently got Windows 10 and after failing again to run the game in SteamVR's theatre mode I decided to play it the old fashion way.
But the game is like super-sped up now! The audio and sound files are fine but because the game is going super-fast is just crazy.

I figure it was a Windows compatibility issue and tried to set it in sonic2app properties but that didn't do anything.

Anyway to make the game run at normal speed?

That happens if the fps are higher than 60fps. There are several ways to limit it, I did it with the nvidia control panel before and RivaTuner. If you have an AMD card you can probably also force Vsync somewhere (maybe set it to half if you can).

I only have NVidia. I checked NVidia's and Windows monitor settings they're all already at 60fps.

I even checked UserConfig.cfg which has RefreshRate="60".

When I play the game in windowed mode then it plays fine but I'd rather fix full screen mode if I can.

Have you tried enabling Steams fps counter and see what framerate it is during gameplay? Last time I saw someone with the issue setting Vsync to Adaptive (maybe it was Adaptive Half Refreshrate) seemed to have helped. If you have up-to-date drivers you can also set the max fps there. Be sure to only do it for that game though.

The numbers went wilds from hundreds to thousands.

I manage to stand idly in Chao Kindergarten which clocks at around 712 or so.

Figured it out in the end. If setting it to 60fps doesn't change anything (my game was set to it to begin with) This is what you do (for those with NVIDIA graphics cards).

1. Go to NVIDIA Control Panel
2. Go to "Manage 3D settings"
3. Select "Program Settings" tab.
4. "Select Program to Customise", you're looking for sonic2app.exe, if it's not on the list click "Add" to add it from your Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure 2 folder.
5. Set Vertical Sync to Adaptive. Apply changes.

This will slow the game to it;s correct speed.

I went to the application. I went to Vsync and when I select it gives me the options of On, off, and Use 3D application setting. Where can I find the adaptive?

Are you sure you're on NVidia Control Panel? With Program Settings tab and not the Global Settings?
Just right-click your desktop to access NVidia's control panel, or find it in the Start menu.

Click on "Program Settings" tab.
1. Select Program to Customise:
If you know where your sonic2app.exe is in your Steam folders click "Add" and select sonic2app.exe.

2. Specify the settings for this program:
Scroll to bottom of the list until you get to "Vertical Sync", the second one from the bottom. There are various choices but you would want to select Adaptive.

I had this same issue. If your using AMD Radeon, just launch the AMD Radeon launcher, and select the Sonic2app. Then set the Radeon Chill option's On, and set the Min/Max to 60 FPS.

I did all that but the "adaptive" setting just doesn't appear.

I did the same thing and gameplay seems fine but all menus are still running too fast, any solution for that?

I'm having the same issue where my game runs at the refresh rate of my monitor instead of the 60fps that the launcher shows. "Adaptive" also doesn't show up for me in NVIDIA Control Panel, neither in the Global Settings nor the Program Settings.

There are a lot of different ways (and sa2 recognizes some, while not recognizing others), but the most universal way is to download this by clicking "d3d9.zip":

https://github.com/ThirteenAG/d3d9-wrapper/releases

Then put d3d9.ini and d3d9.dll into your Sonic Adventure 2 folder

Then open d3d9.ini in a notepad type application, and set FPSLimit = 60
