This is a common problem, before going on with with the solution I'm about to type here I recommend you check you computer resolution, if it's anything 1024 x 800 or under than this will be the solution, if it's higher, then do not read any further cause it could damahe your computer

So open device manager than:
1. Click on display adapters to show the display adapters
2. Select your display adapter and right click and go to properties
3. Go to the driver tab and click "update driver"
4. (If 3 works) go on with life.
4. (if 3 does not work) reboot and go back to properties of your display adapter and click roll back driver.
5. go to settings and select the best resolution
6. Open Sonic Adventure 2 and select a resoulation from the launcher.

I hope this helped, if it didn't then I'm sorry.

Can confirm the game stops responding after the Sonic Team logo. the only way to get past it is to choose 1680x1050@59Hz windowed, but I can't make a file so the game still can't be run.

This reminds me of modern sonic games. Broken and abandoned. Sonic Team smoked too much Crack!

it only works in 1680x1050x59Hz in windowed mode for me. and 60Hz resolution freezes after the sonic team logo even if full screen is unchecked. 1680x1050 is a 16:10 resolution and i have a 16:9 monitor, and it doesn't run like fullscreen it runs as a window on my 1920x1080 desktop.

Funny mine only works in fullscreen, I wish it worked in windowed lol.

It crashes for me, too. Also, running sonic2app.exe as admin doesn't work.

ahh nuts i have been looking for every solution and it still wont work
I also had an immediate crash after startup, after the ring, as well.

Only crashed while in fullscreen , but i wanted to have fullscreen.

I'm fairly advanced in my troubleshooting and i just felt it was a Vsync problem so I went into my control panel and made sure to add the sonic2 game exe to the list of games. I then went down to the vsync option and made sure it said "let the program decide"

I manually configure my vsync for other games, so this fixed it right up and I'm using all modern hardware
Edit: in another recent thread they found a fix for crashing at startup (so it turns out my idea about using mod manager has worked for some people) see https://steamcommunity.com/app/213610/discussions/0/1813170373225364782/

My SAII works with full-screen checked at 1360*768 @60hz
I can also run it in windowed mode with full-screen unchecked at 800x600 60hz

I have the Mod Manager and its asosiated codes. In mod manager itself i tend to leave borderless fullscreen un-checked.

The issue is probably resolution or v sync related. if using NVIDIA then maybe take a look at this guide regarding adjusting.relavent settings for SA2 through NVIDIA control panel. A fresh install never hurts either. https://steamcommunity.com/app/213610/discussions/0/1696043806557658938/

It runs okay until you check "fullscreen" in launcher? Okay if fresh install / looking at NVIDIA settings doesn't' do it then there may be a work around.

Download Mod Manager for Sonic Adventure 2. In Mod Manager check borderless fullscreen, with the desired resolution already selected in the launcher and "fullscreen" in the launcher unchecked.

I can't get past the first omochao loading screen when I start up the game...I just want to play the game with mods...
CyberSonicBoom Sep 16, 2019 @ 7:52pm
It stops working for me on various times. When it's lower than 1600, it freezes at the Omochao screen. When it's below 1920, it freezes at the loading screen after the opening. It can only run on 1920x1080 and it buffers. I had no choice but to switch to full screen for it to run properly...

Yeh seems broken, not sure what's going on but now I can't even run the game in full screen 1920 without it crashing after the logo.

Edit: Only solution was to turn off full screen mode for me.
