Was Sonic created by Eggman?

The origin of Sonic doesn´t appear in the official canon (despite other argumental lineas as Archie or Fleetway series), so... Is it possible that hypothesis?
I think that Dr Eggman knew Project Shadow much before the events of Sonic Adventure 2 (which was created by his grandfather), so he wanted to make his own Shadow. Because of that, he created another high-speed hedgehog (Project Needlemouse could be a good name for the project) whose name is Sonic. After working for him (doing the dirty work, of course), at a certain moment Sonic rebelled against Eggman, starting the storyline of the franchise.
But that is only a game theory (similar to the creation of Crash Bandicoot). I can't find any evidence to prove it, but also not to dismiss it.

That is, in fact, not the case.
There is no evidence for this, and it was never said this happened.
So, no, Sonic was not created by Eggman. Otherwise, that's 10 years of Sonic Team planning for a lore bomb. And they don't do lore bombs.
