Super Annoying Water Droplet Sounds at Aquatic Mine
Is there a way to turn down sound effect volume while keeping the music volume on? The sound affects are annoying and loud as f, and I want to hear the music. :(

Nope. It's a glaring issue with this version of the game that was never fixed (by the devs anyway). I'm afraid you'll have to put up with loud sfx, there is no fix as far as I'm aware.

"Glaring" it is a 1 level bug man, and why would it be expected that the devs fix it? This is a port, not a new game meaning the coding wasn't changed (other than new bugs because it's a port).
Well, it's not just that level that has really loud sound effects. The train in pumpkin hill is really loud too. Well, I guess that's normal because trains are supposed to be really loud, but still, it's really distracting and unpleasant to listen to. I end up dying a lot or getting disoriented by dumb stuff like that. The flying sound is really loud too, and it takes away from the gameplay. It's really annoying because it's not even a high quality flying sound either. It sounds all compressed and crunchy. What else? Let's see....oh yeah! Tails'/Robotnik's lock on sound is really high pitched and annoying too. And so is the sound when you get close to keys/jewels in treasure hunting levels. Ugh...It's even worse when you're trying to do a timed level like Rouge's. They are all just really annoying and unfittingly loud. They distract me and make me lose concentration, and I have trouble playing 3D games with keyboard anyway (I'm trying to get a xbox controller). I can't focus with all this loud racket. >:( I just want to play and enjoy the game >:( I also wanna hear the music, which is one of my favorite parts of the game. The music is better quality too, than the sound effects, but, of course, it has to be too quiet in comparison.

The flying and lock on were loud in the GC version too (just tested that to make sure). Also you can hear the music in the sound test (I'd reccommend the Eggman theme just because).
Yeah, I guess it's alright to listen to it in the sound test. But I also want to hear it in the levels too. I feel like it would make the levels a lot more enjoyable.

There is infact a mod that lowers the SFX volume by 50%. It's not mine, nor have I tested it, but here. :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_LpjvSRd_xkWFk3bTRlMUFyRmc/view

Thank you so much. That was really nice of you to do that. Now, I wonder where I should put it....

The audio mixing in this port is broken. Try this port on a discrete 5.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound system, all the sound effects play out of all the speakers like someone took a mono recording and decided to send that same mono recording to all the speakers. It should only be coming out of the front left & right speakers since this game is Stereo. Mixing volume is also messed up in this port as most have already noticed. The problem with this port is that sound effects only register as being super close to you (very loud) or very far away (silent) and this port makes zero attempts to map the sound effects to the appropriate speakers.

The Dreamcast & GameCube versions have their problems with the music sometimes being louder than the voices in the cutscenes but that's about it. Sound effects do not blast in those versions.
