You can use platinum coins to learn skills from trainers, as well to temporarily increase the "potential" of skills. "Potential" refers to how much EXP a skill receives when used. More potential = faster level ups. As exp is required, potential gradually drops, but can never drop below the skill's "base potential".
What I've done is get music very high, and fulfill music quests in Palmia, then fed that back into the music skill to increase it even higher. As long as you can fulfill one quest on the quest board, you can reroll using 1 influence to refresh the board and continue indefinitely. I can get 100 platinum coins in about an hour with a bunch of orens to boot, and I can feed those platinum coins into my other skills to level them up faster.
Just be careful when first learning music - you will likely be stoned to death and requires an audience to gain exp. The more people, the faster, but the more rocks you'll take to the face when starting off.
Platinum coins are your friend, but also eating good food and doing certain activities like reading books to increase learning also help level specific things. Food have stats assigned to them that you'll be able to see. They increase potential.
Go for food that boosts your Main and Off-stat and their Potential. That would be either Magic/Learning for Mages or Strength/Endurance for Warriors. Of course, you can Hybrid, but you will probably be using either one of those playstyles primarily with the other taking a supporting role.
That being said, buy food from Vendors/Inns, as they are discounted by 70% and for some reason, can not go bad. (I think this might be a bug and will be fixed in the future) They usually come with Lv. 5-6 Stats and 3-4 Potential, while still giving bonuses for off-stats.
Also, Gear is your friend. Want to be OP real fast? Pick a God and max him out with 30 Faith minimum to receive a super strong weapon. For example, my Sword which I got from Yevan does 3d10+10(+5=+15 due to being enchanted) damage with +10 to hit and 50% armor pen, and I may or may not have switched gods twice for similarly powerful items. (Thanks Mani and Lulwy)
The wiki page has hints about how to max out your gods quickly. For Yevan I used Stone Breastplates, for Mani I used Crim-Powder by planting my own Crim, for Lulwy I used booze made from Honey and Mushrooms.
Being an Eytheist is a viable choice only for Demigods (extended races) in the beginning, and the very end of your game cycle. Sadly, it seems the Bonuses you get from Eyth are hardcapped by your Faith Level, and increasing Faith without a god is very hard. So getting your Faith level to 80-100 is highly recommended before switching back as the stats you will accumulate over time are ridiculous. I think it's somewhere in the realm of +25ish in all Stats at least and +60ish Speed at that level, while in the beginning you are capped at +7 to all stats (+8 as a priest/paladin, so assuming that 5 Lv. in Faith increase cap by 1 we come out to a cap of +23 at level 80 and +27 at level 100 Faith; this assumes that the cap for speed is 2.5x that of the other stats due to the rate it increases:) receiving +1 in all stats every 25 days and +1 Speed every 10 days. (meaning you would have to wait for around 600-700 ingame days to cap out your stats after switching to Eyth)
AGAIN: KEEP IN MIND THIS IS FOR DEMIGOD-RACE ONLY
I highly recommend not worrying about Feat Points after getting your first 6 or so and then just focussing on making Money and grinding stats and skills instead. The Feat Points will come on their own.
