One other thing to try may be to put it in one of the 'misc' slots, where your extra bags/purse goes.
I've been grabbing it and throwing it from the hotbar. Not equipping it to any slot.. IIRC in Elona you had a ranged weapon slot and it would apply equipment effects if equipped there. None of these other slots seem to allow this.
Stat bonuses being applied only when actually throwing it makes sense.. But with it raising strength it'd be hard to check.
"These items are not treated as equipped, so even if they have enchantments related to defense such as elemental resistance, you will not receive any benefits from them." I would assume that includes attribute and skill bonuses etc.
The only problem (for me) is, following this logic, mics and kongs shouldn't work either in enhancing music ability.
Assuming the wiki is right, that sucks that the stat bonus is misleading.
I'd find it hard to believe the better performance enhancing ability doesn't work. But that would also be really hard to prove since there's that per-instrument performing ability.
Hopefully we'll get more clarity on both with more updates.
Unless the stat bonus only takes effect in the brief moment between your current "turn" and your next one, the only effect you can make use of on the Putit in Amber is the bonus frost/electric damage.
