Or another way is mark your thing as important so throw/drop/gift wont happen.
And if for inventory transfer between vendor/pet just buy/take it back.
Equip the item if you want to use it, don't put it in the hot bar. This prevents the "yeeting" issue for that item. You can also mark it as important.
I'd show where the option to warn about gifting is, but unfortunately the game is being family shared for me at the moment so I cannot access to give it a screen shot. I promise there is such a setting, though and it's criminal that it isn't enabled by default.
