You could, but there are thousands of recipes of, everything, it might prove challenging to get food recipes. Also, you need cooking levels to unlock better recipes. The higher the skill lv the more likly for you to unlock new recipes during cooking.

You could also buy food from inn and smash them with hammer, if your cooking level is sufficent, you might unlock recipe to that food
