Second, be aware of Casting penalties, such as from Dual Wielding, wearing heavy armor, wearing a shield, Riding a mount, and hosting using Symbiosis.
Third, you're right that casting a spell multiple times will level it up.
Each level up boosts the cast chance of a spell.
Additionally, if you're holding something in your off-hand and/or are wearing heavier armor, this will also reduce your chance to cast spells. Symbosis and riding party members also reduces casting chance.
There's a feat you can get for heavy armor and shield penalties, but this removes the hard cap penalty on casting while wearing these set-ups - it doesn't actually reduce these penalties by itself.
It's not really recomended unless you're rich, dedicate all Demitas inventory to clone the spellbook, and more importantly, end up being completely immune to fire someohow.
That being said, like all spells it gets easier to cast if you have good casting, light armor, and the spell is high level enough (so you have to use it. A lot. Which is unpractical at best with this one and suicidal at worst.)
You should probably settle for the gravity/earthquake combo or a good ball spell if you want AOE damage. They are more easier to get and upgrade.
I find it good for clearing out some heavily crowded Nefia rooms with just a one (or sometimes two)-and-done cast to just soften most things and get some damage over time going. If you know there's a lot of stuff to hit and it's otherwise going to take a lot of turns and single-target to do it, meteor's pretty good. Though I'd recommend only doing it after having learned magic manners feat so you don't burn all of the loot up in the room, too.
Fire resist with scale equipment is pretty easy to achieve, too.
yeah, that's how I got my meteor spell lol. some fool sold me a rod for like 800 oren in aquili teola, which gave me like 50 charges or so. Obviously it got tested right in the middle of the room LMAO
As for meteor and earthquake, I prefer later. You can also use the ice ball spell to put out the fire near your party instantly. The prerequisite is that you must have high control magic and magic manner.
Damn, good tip... I didn't think about upgrading the size of the grimoire... that's quite usefull.
