So this is like the weeb verison of dwarf fortress adventure mode?
I saw someone say its combat is like final fantasy tactics and I can assure you that person has no clue what tactics games play like.

Unlike DF, which as I understand is fully procgen, Elin has many handcrafted static locations and a few story dungeons and bosses. It doesn't have as much variety as DF, but then again, really not much does.

Elin, much like Elona, has some zany or goofy elements to it. I wouldn't really call it a weeb game necessarily, as it stands on its own merits and even a guy like me who's very much not into that sort of thing has a great time playing it. That said, yeah, it's particularly beloved by that crowd (and for good reason IMO).

I consider Elin to be a relatively traditional, if not purely orthodox rogue like. It's directly descended from ADOM in its mechanics, and thus would choose that as its closest point of comparison among other games.

That's a really bizarre choice of comparison, sort of like asking if Kingdom is based on the Old One's Army from Terraria and not the, uh, entire genre or two of games that the OAA is based on. (Or the specific game that the OOA is based on for that matter.)

Like, go play Avernum, Haven & Hearth, etc., get a bit of culture in you, then come back and take a look at this game again.

Dwarf Fortress "adventure mode" is a "roguelike" game mode for DF. Roguelike is a genre of games, which DF is imitating with that game mode. Elin is a traditional roguelike, built more or less directly off of Rogue itself, after several iterations and generations of such games. So in a sense, DF Adventure mode is an imitation of what Elin gameplay is about. I can't tell you how they compare, because I don't play DF, but yes this is what DF Adventure mode is "trying" to be.

They are pretty mechanically simpler but dwarf fortress is a lot more in-depth and better then elona, I won't be able to judge elin because I havent played it.
Plus unlike DF, Elona and Elin don't take themselves seriously, Having a "little girl" as a pet.
with silly gender and race options(That do not change how you look???), Theres no like impact, the games feel silly off the get go. I can understand based on that it might not be for me.
This is why I can't respect any anime game, They don't ever take themselves seriously.

Then why are you here complaining about a type of game you don't like off the get-go? Dwarf Fortress is also incredibly silly and doesn't take itself particularly seriously.

It's very clear that you're speaking about a topic you know almost nothing about outside of a surface level dissertation you've gotten based off of anime/Japanese games and the ChatGPT English translation the game currently has.

Looks like you came here just to be mad. Both are good, both can be enjoyed without making comparisons. Elin is very different from DF adventure mode, because it is a completely different game genre.

It is closer to Caves of Qud, but more static and has stronger rules for how the world works.

The game absolutely DOES NOT take itself seriously at all, but is still really well optimized and content-rich.

The game is a mix of Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, Kenshi, Rimworld, Nethack, and Rogue slapped together with a big "Because it's f****ng funny!" disclaimer.

You didn't list the direct inspiration - ADoM with its corruption and mutation.

As if anime games are the only games that don't take themselves seriously or something? What's with this stereotype?

Even a game as "serious" in tone and setting as Kenshi doesn't take itself seriously with useful tooltips such as "You are being eaten alive! AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!", or it's ridiculous ragdoll physics that make characters look like they are Naruto running when their arms become disabled.

Cool, its mostly text game so you can't handle it anyways sigh. I mean you can't handle that but let me guess in DF you totally see the difference in your gender lol. Also its not weeb child, its JAPANESE lol. It has a 2 man dev team who are Japanese as far as I know. So if you don't like JRPG style stuff why are you here?

And PET is general term for your party sigh you not actually taking her on walks, and grooming her, i know you were hoping that was the case. Also my "little girl" is 42 years old in my current save lol. So don't get all excited its just char type and probally a translation thing lol Like the patch notes all got disclaimers they use chat GPT to translate it, so yeah I am sure they don't speak english at all, and are relying on cheap ways to translate it, and some terms don't translate well and with out some one there who speaks both going "well you should change pet to party..." stuff like this happens lol.
