How do I unlock more recipes?
I really want to start decorating my base, making my own gear, cool stuff like that, but I'm nearing day 60 and I still have no recipes learned in the anvil, and basically nothing of use learned besides the basic stuff you would already know. I have maxed the sleeper feat, and I make sure to disassemble stuff that I find that I don't need. What am I doing wrong? I'm having trouble enjoying the game if I can't expand my crafting options.

There isn't anything to learn on the anvil yet, "gear crafting" isn't really in the game at this stage of EA. There are some workarounds, like you can convert stone/metal into logs through statues and make like "wood weapons" made of higher tier metals, but that's about it.

There are a huge number of building/decorating recipes, learning them is generally a pretty slow and RNG process. For building stuff, if you level your crafting up a bit you occasionally learn building recipes when mining or digger, things like floors, walls, columns, blocks, etc. Mining/digging a specific wall/floor has a good chance to learn the recipe for it. For deco objects, you can disassemble them with a hammer for a chance to learn them, but you need enough of the appropriate skill.

You can check available recipes and their skill levels on the wiki:
https://ylvapedia.wiki/wiki/Elin:Creating

I don't think that's everything, but people have been filling the lists out over the past couple weeks.

So typically you figure out what you want to make, get enough skill for it, find a town that has that item and either disassemble it where it is for a karma penalty, or use tickets to buy the item then disassemble it without the karma hit. The chance to learn the recipe is not high though. I honestly save scum it, sometimes it can take like 10-15 disassembles to learn it, but it might be a higher chance if your skill is significantly higher than the requirement.

Or you can just play and discover recipes in chests, by sleeping, and the recipe shrines, but even after a couple thousand days you aren't likely to have everything yet.

Except when learned from a recipe paper, you need to be a high enough level in the relevant crafting discipline to learn it. I believe you need to be within 5 levels of the recipe's level.
This[ylvapedia.wiki] has a list of craftable things (I can't guarantee that everything is there or correct) and their levels.
EDIT: PSA: Beware of ninjas.

Anvil recipes are not implemented yet, for starters.
Besides that first one for Ancient Weapon, but I don't think the Decayed weapon material it calls for is implemented.
Blacksmith skill for now is basically limited to the Machine Table and the Blacksmith Table recipes.

Otherwise, if it can be crafted, you just need to have the appropriate skill level to learn the recipe randomly on your own, via sources like inspiration from related activities (learn new rice dishes by cooking rice dishes, learn new floor recipes by digging up floors), dreaming recipes up, or dismantling intact objects with a hammer.

You can also buy some recipes from certain NPCs, or find recipes in treasure chests.

Here's a (mostly comprehensive) list of recipes currently implemented in this version of EA:
https://ylvapedia.wiki/wiki/Elin:Creating

In the recipe acquisition tabs, if it doesn't say "Initially learned" or "Sold by (NPC)" then it's going to be a random acquisition recipe, such as through treasure chest recipe pages, or inspiration.

I like how 3 different people, without knowing of the others' posts, all linked to the same list on the wiki lol

learning recipes is basically rng hell, every action you do has a very small chance to teach you something in the related category.

If sleeping/thing isn't working in your favor, you should try to get the body pillow at the casino, it weight's learning new recipe's more in your favor(if you sleep learn), atleast if your skill allow's for it, otherwise you will learn poster's and you will love it.

Oh, and if you skill is preventing you from learning something it will generally tell you something along the line's of You feel like you could learn something if x was better or something along those line's, though sleeping will not tell you of such limit's and will give you, poster's or something usually.

Edit: Oh right, if you want to learn more about floor's and wall's you should try mining puppy cave, or digging at solid soil, it usually teach's you that stuff slowly, and is where i got most of my wall/floor recipe's honestly, as for decoration's uh... i think i get some when gathering sometime's but it's still a slog.

yeah I am not liking the RNG hell

I'm on day 1461 and I just unlocked the aging shelf for cheese like 5-10 (ingame) days ago. I'm so glad I furniture ticket one years ago instead.

While I'm glad people are developing the wiki to find out what's craftable I just wish the game would more easily tell you what you can and can't craft.

I wasted like 4 IRL days dismantling plasma lamps only to find out you can't craft them???
That or I am continuing to be very unlucky lol

the picker tool in build mode supposedly tells you things that are unknown recipes but I don't know if its unknown because I haven't unlocked it or its not implemented for crafting

Hammer tool. Disassembling stuff, as long as you are within 5 levels of it has a chance of netting you knowledge on how to make it.

It works on food too. Imagine bashing carbonara with a hammer in order to learn how to cook it :steamhappy:

That's how i learned how to make Pizza!

I apparently like EXTRA thin crust.

There's a "research board" in the game that doesn't do anything yet AFAIK, my guess is it will eventually be a more directed way of learning various recipes in the future.

I've already dissasembled like 400 minimum and yes all my craft skills should be high enough (except alchemy i only started working on that yesterday since i thought it was useless as we have a dye shop until yesterday I learned water tiles could be crafted in part to learning high enough alchemy?)

Nah you won't need to train Alchemy.
Water tiles are built at the Flooring Workshop, so they're governed by your Crafting skill.
Their recipe just calls for Dyes as an ingredient.

You'll learn any tile recipe just randomly while doing something like Digging ground.
So if you wanna learn how to make a water tile, just till some dirt and dig at it forever and ever.
There's just a ton of tiles, so if you wanted water specifically, it'll probably take a while.

On a different not, some nice QoL would be if hovering over an item with your hammer equipped would tell you if it's even possible to learn a recipe from disassembling it.

That would in fact be amazing :steamhappy:

ah cool so i wasted time yesterday lol back to buying dyes in bulk from the dye shops lol

yeah I usually don't dig and rely on the x10 sleep recipe mod for discoveries for the most part
though by that method I end up with mostly recipe improvements and not new recipes 99/100 rolls lol

i need to find a day im not busy with the base and just slave away in some corner digging endlessly lol
