How to make money fishing?
The fish I catch aren't worth very much, is there something I can do to make them more profitable?

Turn them into bonito flakes with the sawmill and turn those into wine with the brewery barrel, except for things that are larger than 9s, which should just be thrown in the barrel as-is.

Thanks! Should I bring a sawmill to the beach with me or is there a beach with one nearby?

I would recommend turning it into compost with the compost update that happened a little while back. You get more bait back that allows you to fish more then what the wine will give you.

Just fish in the Meadow until you can afford to buy a beach. The Land Feats (Beach, Sea, and Fishing Spot) only apply if you own the land and upgrade the Hearth Stone sufficiently. Other than that it doesn't matter where you fish.

And yes if you didn't already know each piece of land has 3 feats which unlock with hearthstone levels and add bonuses to how that land operates. The Sea/Beach and Fishing Spot feats (visible in the top left) add a 20 and 25% chance to catch an extra fish.

I like to fish next to my Storage Chest. I can just dump all the fish, and the statues and other junk into the chest. Then I can saw everything all at once, and I can even move the chest (Storage Chests always weigh the same 20s, no matter what is inside) over to my Brewing area and grab all the 1000s of weight worth of flakes at once, and put them in the barrels without having to move (squashed)

Ouch... well that explains why I wasn't noticing enough of a difference when fishing a full bar of stamina on a [Beach + Fishing Spot] tile.

Almost 90 hours in the game and still learning things :steamhappy:

How much does it cost to buy a beach? Admittedly I only have the meadow and the second place you get from the story (Vernis?) so I don't know how to buy more land lol

the same as any other location.

You want to go visit a scrivener and buy a land deed (don't confuse it with the relocation deed which lets you teleport one of your bases to a new location. They get more expensive with the more bases you have but if I remember correctly the first land deed is 50k orens.

You can either recruit a scrivener from the quest board or visit either Mysillia (usually found at the king's court) or at the Embassy Spot (just north of Palmia)

50k is something you can get in a day of in-game fishing so it really won't take you long at all.

Edit: With lower skills it might take you up to a week of in-game time but it won't take long.

Pretty sure it costs like 70-100k, but there could be some kind of multiplier at play there (in addition to doubling each purchase)

there must be yes because the numbers start being less pretty as the cost balloons.
For example my next land deed costs exactly 2,734,073 orens
and I currently posses 7 bases

Negotiation skill should play into the cost (for reference mine is atm 53.06)
but perhaps other things come into play as well?

Check this out : https://ylvapedia.wiki/wiki/Elin:Vendors/Wine_Prices
Its a list of price for shipping bin wine that you can make with the brewery barrels.

Since bonito flake wines sells at 30, and a fish makes for 4 bonito flakes, I reckon that any fish wine that sells above 120 orens to be made into wine. And the weighty ones to be made into compost for more bait.

What is the new rule for composting after the update ? I put a sunfish weighs 9,5s i think into the compost box and it turns into just 4 fertilizers.

I believe it's somewhat random within a certain range depending on the weight but I could be wrong.
Turning fish into bonito flakes and aging them in barrels is the best money-making racket for me, so far. I tried drying fish on the drying rack, but the jerky that comes out of it isn't that good to eat, and doesn't give that much when sold or sent to the capital.

Thanks for the tips all :)

Is there a way to speed up fishing or should I just plop in front of some water and afk for a minute lol
