How can I get my little girl to stop using a bow?

I accidentally gifted her a bow so I can't take it back. Instead of using the amazing war scythe she has equipped i see her shooting this crappy bow. What can I do to make her melee again? It's made of wood so the only thing I can think of is take away her fire blankets and go find a fire hound but that will ruin the rest of her gear. Any other solutions?

Make her love you so you can take it back without her protesting

Try getting her into melee , then she will use the melee, its about the strategy if you click the 'tent' symbol which will bring up the profile, then look at the bottom options, which should include a strategy option, that should let you adjust the options the AI can use.

Usually you can take something they've have equipped or its something own or you've gifted by clicking on it several times, you'll take a karma hit but its no biggie really... However if you MUST bring morality into the game world and RP a nice guy they should prioritize using a cane over the bow, and after running out of mana which should be quick hopefully they'll use melee again on cool down which is usually enough to throw on debuffs from the cane.
Dismiss her from the party also might work as its a crappy bow, have one thats good in its place but not gifted and they should put the crap one into a community chest... I noticed this happen when I recruited a random citizen from another town and had to gift like 20 pieces of armor, instead of taking them all back and getting a -20 karma hit from swiping it all back they did me a kindness by putting most of it back into the community chest.

You could also try giving them a better ranged weapon, then maybe they'll sell the worse one when you go into town with them.

You've all been great but Exar Kun had the answer - dismissing her from the party - she put the wood bow back into community storage where I promptly grabbed it and smashed it. Problem solved! and no more pew pew for my tanky girl.

Oh big deal my "little" girl started the journey as a 27 years old and she is well over 30 now...

or rather, little girl is actually a race rather than a description in this game

Usually she'll use whichever weapon is a) in range and b) gives the optimum damage output. So if the scythe really is amazing she'll only use the bow until the enemy are in melee range, at which point she should switch to the scythe (if not it's a good indicator the scythe isn't as amazing as it appears). Usually in fact you want to give her a ranged and melee weapon precisely so she spends more turns actually doing damage and less skipping around.
