According to the words of Nao, there will never be 'proper' armor/gear crafting. It is literally not the focus of the game. Diving for new gear is how it is meant to be done, and how it will continue to be done. There was some slight mention of how they may in the future add in some very minor weapons/armour crafting for a very limited amount of more 'special' items, but nothing like what the few folks asking for it want.
stone works well enough to go diving. i'd love to beable to craft "better" sets, but by the time you can, you've probably found a magic item in the puppy cave or something and it's meaningless as it stands.
I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. As far as I knew, hammering an ingot already returned the original ore, not stone. That's not how you get stones of metal material, if that's what you were alluding to. I was getting stones of metal by breaking down junk from the Junk Gacha machine.
Or as another method, at least as far as I know concerning transmutation of ingots to stone, you make a tool (like the pickaxe) out of the metal you want to convert to stone, and then you hammer it, at which point you're returned a single stone of the original metal from which you crafted your tool. Is that what you meant by no longer being able to convert metals to stones? Because if the dev removed that feature, that would be incredibly short-sighted.
then why even have crafting up to stone at that point?
