Newbies do the Puppy Cave quest ASAP
One thing I wish I saw in all of the advice posts was to do the Puppy Cave first. The quest reward is a Cooler which preserves food for much longer and makes the game far easier.

Make sure to get some basic armor first and rush through to the second level to get the puppy and use a scroll to get out.

Well, usually those advice posts mention that food does not decay in pet inventory :steamhappy:

So it's not really that big a deal to rush to the Cooler.

Oh nice, I missed that one. That'll certainly help in future playthroughs.

Nymelle is also good doing just for the scroll of ally you get from getting Farris out. Can get a good companion from it which helps early game. I used mine till I got someone who was good with range. Did get a hellhound out of it once but never saw that again after.

I'd say finishing the vernis quest line as well is worth doing early on as it unlocks a bunch of useful stuff and is better for income than meadows is.

Are you sure? I swore the food I gave my pet would go stale eventually, or does it not just rot completely? Or I could just be talking nonsense and haven't paid attention.

Yep. I do a lot of fishing, farming and corpse collecting. I go in-game weeks at a time without even touching raw foods in my party inventory and it doesn't progress the decay route.

Oh that's good to know then! Will they eat the corpses?

Yeah if they are hungry and that's all that's in their inventory they'll eat it.

I haven't had it happen in a very long time because I always keep them topped off on cooked food so they don't bother looking at raw food.

Yeah that makes sense. Did wonder if there was a priority for cooked foods and what not before they would shove their face into it, but this is useful, thanks :D
