I thought it was just trained by casting, period.
And casting a lot.
i guess you could try to multitask.
Gather all your citizens into one room, stand in the center of them, and cast Ball spells over and over to train both Casting and Control Magic.
Just uh... maybe make sure you do it in a base where the Hearth Stone is leveled to protect stuff.
Earthquake and Meteor could work in that case, as well.
Or, maybe just stick close to your party and group-cast Healing/Buff spells.
It could also be used to train Magic Capacity.
Or, hey! Cast Summon Animals, and shear any shearable ones that pop up.
Could be handy to have fodder wool/hide fibers to put towards training Weaving.
Finally, you could just attack a dummy with a cane or a Force weapon, that should train Casting and Magic Device.
Yea the lower level spells train casting significantly slower then higher level spells. Fire Touch for example gives almost no XP towards my casting level even with over a thousand casts while stuff like summon animals give a ton right now. My guess is that the XP is calculated by a combination of mana cost and casting difficulty.
I didn't think of canes and force weapons though, I'll have to try that.
But, it makes sense that piddly little 2 MP costing touch spells wouldn't do as much to train Casting as a big beefy costly spell might.
Maybe group-casting Healing, if you have a steady source of charges for that spell.
It's pretty costly, for something group-castable.
It does suck that I wouldn't be training anything useful on the spell side of things but if it means making the casting training much faster it might be worth it.
If you curse a spellbook for him to copy, the copy will be cursed, and it'll cost like half as much.
It increases the "difficulty" of reading it, but if your Literacy skill can handle it, it's just cost-saving.
I was actually curios if there was any benefit to blessing them, like getting more charges of the spell when reading it or something.
How would you even go about cursing stuff? I can't even figure out how to uncurse stuff that I can't equip cause my brain is to small lol.
Then just blend it with whatever you want to curse.
And as for uncursing unequippable stuff... only way I found to plainly uncurse inventory items is to use a Blessed scroll of Uncurse. That targets everything, equipped stuff and inventory stuff.
Otherwise, you can bless something to overwrite a curse, if you wanted to use a blessed pot of water to do that.
As for the benefits of blessing spellbooks, I hadn't really noticed any difference in the charges gained per reading a blessed or unblessed book.
It definitely makes the book more expensive to buy, though.
This is good to know, I'll be able to make good use of this especially since I'm getting all the altars to my base so making blessed or cursed stuff is just a matter of getting the water.
Do you spam train a buff/debuff spell/heal spell each time you're about to sleep, find a regen shrine, or are about to travel on the world map ?
That's enough to bring someone with 190 potential to 100 casting in about 400 days.
Caughing blood every day is a very important part of a mage training in this game lol
I tend to do dedicated training sessions of specific skills rather then optimizing every moment of play. I'd rather sit and do 10 hours of just spell casting instead of casting spells constantly while traveling and stuff lol.
As for the 'before travel' part, yeah, I am not doing it myself neither. Too much of a hasle. just suggested it because it's optimal.
I just find stuff like that to be tedious.
Run nefia like crazy using cheap maps, always net a profit along side fighter guild exp, possibly new upgrades to gear. Keep wands and books, train up anything and everything you pick up. Rinse and repeat while keeping your "potential" up. Make sure you have joined the mages guild to freely gain standing with them reading the various tomes found within.
If you want to also level melee I believe spellblade inscriptions using the calligraphy table will do both, but it only actives the attached spell ON HIT.
EXP is tied to difficulty, the same also applies for anything crafting related so certain spells are harder to level up no matter what, but just keep going at it.
