Should I train early game?
Should I just beat up the dummy early game? I find the dungeons especially encountering the hermit crab a pain to deal with all attacks miss.

You can easily deal with hermit crabs by using Touch or Arrow spells. Every class has at least one elemental domain that has a Touch spell, and most of them also have an Arrow spell.

But yes, beating up the dummy will help you. Also hanging from the Gallows you're given to let others beat you up and train your defensive skills (don't worry, it can't kill you, except maybe if they cause a damaging status effect, but idk if they can)

If you intend to train, it's wise to learn farming and have a farm on standby so you can train from day to day without going out for food.

Not really. What you really need is better gear, and it won't come to you by training on a dummy. You'll have to either explore low level nefias or do enough money to be able to buy decent gear in a big city like Palmia, Mysilia or the balck market of Derphys

You should craft a cane for ennemies that have high protection value such as the crab. You can craft one with the wood workbench. A sawmill will turn the branches in sticks. And you can find the two gems in harvestable jewellry chests in low level nefia such as Puppy cave.

Dude, gear is EVERYTHING in this game. Seriously, like 80% of your power comes from your stuff, with stats making up the other 20%. But leveling up those stats takes forever! The fastest way is by stuffing your face with food, which boosts your stats and potential. Problem is, good food is expensive, and when you're starting out, you're broke AF.

First things first, craft a wooden helmet and weapon in your workshop. Then grab your little girl pet and hit the dungeon to find some better loot.

Once you've made some cash from dungeons and quests, head to the inn or bakery and buy up all the food you can, especially anything with potential. Aim for at least +300 potential in the attribute you want to boost. Don't forget you can use influence to refresh their stock and find even better grub!

After a few runs, you'll be a total beast and can ditch the pet and solo those dungeons.

Other things to mention.

If you get your combat skills up another 10-20 levels without any other changes the crabs should be easier. The problem is ALL of these types of enemies with either high physical DR or Evasion "such as fairy or wasps" will always have the same issue unless you use magic/debuff them. Certain enemy types push you into using more than a single playstyle type. A weapon that has added elemental damage is great for these kinds of enemies if you aren't just playing a mage.

Medals can be used at the workshop south of Noyel, replica weapons are pretty good for their price.

God worship unlocks acolyte followers and precious God weapons which are pretty game defining. If you manage to get your faith above 15 and spend 1-3 hours dumping their preferred offering, you can easily unlock both which can help you leap above your current power level.

You will only start finding better gear every 5-10 threat level increases, that gear can be the difference too

- If you have followers WARNING:

riding and symbiosis are a huge raw stat stack but it also nukes your hit chance until those skills increase significantly "above 20-40."

You can recruit a mage, warmage, or paladin from the jobs board using gold bars. You can also recruit adventurers as found on the same job board by raising affinity to 75 + defeating them in combat one time.

These are a few more ways to progress forward. Crabs and Fairy/Flying types of enemies are mostly a "stat" check. If you're stats and growth is too low they take forever to kill so keep grinding and adventuring.

Boomerangs take care of crabs well, they are an awesome weapon.

Don't train on the dummy honestly, train on the crabs. You get a lot more skill exp by fighting actual enemies, and crabs pretty much just exist to be early game training dummies. They basically don't do damage to you either, so you can just wail in them for as long as it takes and get a nice chunk of exp.

if I am not wrong, you need to hit the enemy to get exp. so if he misses all the time -> no exp

From my experience in the early game Hermit crabs were the best way to train companion skills because they couldn't kill the hermit crab. They give a ton of xp for that reason alone.

This is the most important thing, as food is how you raise your stats.

I don't know if that is the case or not, but regardless you will get plenty of exp. A lot of what people perceive as "misses" against crabs are actually scratches, hits that land but have the damage reduced to 0 because of PV. You also get defensive exp when they are swinging at you, and likewise they do very little damage which can be reduced to 0 with a little bit of PV, creating "endless" fights that you can train off of for days.
