Why am I losing Karma?
Am over 100 hours in the game, so while not in any way an expert, I am not a n00b. My Karma keeps dropping even though I am not doing anything that should cause it to drop, and in fact I am being careful not to do so and I am trying to raise it.

The only thing I can think of is I learned policy of tax avoidance at start of the run, but that isn't a policy on either of my bases. Could that be the issue? Is there a way to undo it?

I have done the basic thieves guild quest a long time ago, but not done anything else to do with them since.

It's not the policy of Tax Evasion, that just lowers the cost of taxes.

There's a lot of stuff that can lower Karma, but how much karma loss are you talking about?

After going into the negative for reasons unknown, I did a few missions in Derphy and Mysilia and got it back up to 5, but after a bit of running around and killing things in dungeons and above ground and doing stuff around my base, it has dropped to zero again.

Oh, I meant how many points are you losing each time it happens?
That message log will say how much you lose, and it can help narrow down the source.

TBH I don't know, while I try to keep an eye out, I don't follow the logs in detail a lot of the time, especially as I am not doing anything I would expect to cause issues. I just reloaded my game and found the log is wiped when I reload, really useful! I don't suppose there is a text file log saved anywhere? I just browsed the files and couldn't see one.

It almost feels like I lost 5 in one go, there wasn't a long time between when I last checked the karma and me being back at zero.

Losing 5 is typically from killing people. Do you or a pet have that ether disease that makes you aggressive?

I don't have any ether disease at the moment or negative traits. I can't tell if my pet (girl symbiote) does. I haven't noticed any non-hostile people getting attacked, and I am certainly not attacking them.

You could also lose karma by killing cat-type stuff.
And you can lose 5 Karma for eating meat or meals containing Cat meat/eggs.

Have you actually been paying your taxes? If you lost a bill somewhere in your base that might be why.
Some quest types will lose you a lot of karma if you fail them like escort

I haven't taken any escort missions, and I haven't failed any missions I have taken.

All my taxes are paid according to the home boards at both bases.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed doing that, but will keep an eye on that, thanks :p2cube:

Gifting things to people and then taking them back also loses you Karma, so does taking something from someone when you aren't friendly enough with them.

Yeah, I know that annoys people, I haven't done anything like that.

There are only so many ways of losing karma and we're running out of options brother. So either you're doing one of these things that have been mentioned and you aren't realizing it or you've found something completely new.

Also from what I know taking things from people doesn't actually lower their reputation with you (from my experience at least) it only makes you lose karma unless you're actively stealing.
