Elona help

Heya. I want to get into Elona and would like some tips on what version to get. I know there is discord for the game, but i have no account there and don't plan on getting one. I know of Vanila Elona, Elona+ and Custom GX. Would like to get a list of GX tweaks that will keep it mostly vanilla.

Pretty sure if I start playing Elin, I'll never look at Elona again and I would like to experience it first.

Elin is essentially a remake of Elona and while they are different experiences from what I know (I haven't played Elona myself) I haven't heard anything saying that you need to or should experience Elona before Elin. Also this very much so is a question for the discord even if you don't really want to go there.

I know this does not answer your question but Elona, vanilla or not, is a huge time sink if you want any enjoyment out of them. I would honestly just start on Elin because it is one as well.

Last time I was into playing Elona started with Elona+. I heard its not fully translated but I never got far enough to notice the untranslated portions. I then tried Elona+Custom because it had Custom AI changes so I could modify my followers to act how I wanted them. I never tried Elona+Custom GX but I hear it has even more QoL features so if you are a new player I would suggest getting that.

If you want vanilla, get Elona. It is a totally different game from Elona+. CGX is worth it for the larger resolution sizes alone. You can fit most cities on one screen.

Just hop right into + GX, not much reason to focus on vanilla for this.

Do you know what would be good tweaks to apply in GX? Read that thirst mechanic is problematic when it comes to drinking potions.

How important are skills I can learn from thieves guild? They teach Disarm Traps and Pickpocket. I wanted to play Goblin Farmer, but then I can only get one of those by choosing it as notable skill on character creation.
