How do you use a map?

I have a map, I think I am where I need to be based of what it is saying, but there is no treasure. What am I doing wrong?

You use a shovel while on the tile on the world map.

I'd recommend getting a villager (the dog poppy has this by default) with a job called treasure hunter. If you put your treasure maps in a shared storage container they will auto collect the treasure for you over time.

Also, you can't just stow the treasure map somewhere else when digging. It has to be in your inventory for it to work.
