It's a reference to the tutorial of Elona, apparently.

Ginrikuzuma Dec 16, 2024 @ 4:54pm

corpse of a beggar = the tutorial in elona taught you about eating food by giving you.... the corpse of a homeless person.

worthless gold bar = elona taught you about unidentified items by giving you this "valuable gold bar" which actually turns out to be this worthless gold bar once identified. it has zero value, vendors won't even buy it from you

beggar's pendant = if you killed the tutorial npc he had a 1/4 chance to drop a special item. if you reincarnated after using this item, you would get the beggar's pendant during the tutorial. it has all the same stats as elona's version except for one (instead of letting you see invisible enemies, it protected you from... getting pregnant)

I'm level 40 lockpicking base, with an item that increases it to 42.

Ya it requires 41 lockpicking skill to open, with lockpicks. I don't know what the skill requirement is without lockpicks, it's somewhere above 60, that's about where I lost interest in that experiment.

ugh never mind I don't want to open it I was training my lock picking so yeah it sounds nope, the whole start of the story sounds like Ashland just given you the land due to him not wanting it and paying taxes and they you get a chest like this, but the game is fun to play.

I unlocked mine around Lockingpicking 35 with a few pieces of + lockpicking gear that I stored.
*SPOILER*

It has a really nice +10 CHA amulet inside of it that I still have equipped 200+ hours later :)
If anyone was curious the highest level lockpicking I've seen a chest require without lockpicks is 75.

I built 3 training chests, and was able to buy 4 others from furniture stores and such. I picked them all, then the first was pickable again, rinse and repeat until I was able to pick the sturdy chest lol

I have a saved moonportal with a 10 practice chest setup that is typically fine for training up to 41 on my characters, occasional downtime (all chests unlocked and waiting for reset) for a few turns every other round or so. For training above that I generally use a 12 chest setup in my base (2 rows of 6 with a gap in the middle so you can access 6 of them at a time without moving), downtime is pretty rare with that, but to some extent it will also depend on your speed.

You can just make a single practice chest and give it to Kettle to dupe, it's pretty quick to multiply them up to 12 with 4 dupe slots. I think they only cost like 300-500 oren or so to buy back, it's pretty cheap.

It definitely worth getting to 41 to unlock that thing, the amulet is extremely useful for a very long time.
