Helpful tips it took me a while to figure out.
I figured a thread like this might be helpful to people just starting out.

Negotiation is levelled up by chatting with people, even ones that aren't merchants.

Pickaxe power is actually not based on hardness alone. Iron and steel are much better materials than hardness would indicate. Try making a boomerang with the same material, more damage with the material = stronger pickaxe.

Different elements of spells scale with different stats. Cut scales with strength, death with endurance, mind with charisma. Something to keep in mind if you're focusing on a single stat. Most of the buff spells scale with will.

Throwing damage scales heavily with strength.

Crafting batches of things at once saves a lot of time. If you make food by cooking 10 different corpses or fish, it'll eat up a lot of time, so it's better to cook 10 berries all at once. Also a good way to get extra experience by using a divine wisdom scroll and crafting as much as you can at once.

Disassembling things with a hammer gives crafting skill. Try using it on big stacks of stuff like granite stones to make pebbles, and then destroy the pebbles for even more xp. But don't do 500 at once, you'll die >_>

Snow can be used as a potion material to make clay.

Big leaves come from trees you can find on the beaches. Needles too.

Symbiosis is really, really powerful! Definitely get a companion with a ranged attack to ride around on you, they get free attacks while you move.

The quests that ask you to kill a certain thing are using their race, not the name of the monster. Hermit crabs are 'shell' race, for example.

You can check monster races by looking at their card in your collection.

Silver bells are weak against cold and sound damage.

Blacksmithing can't be used to make weapons. Or anything useful really, don't waste your time on it right now.

The 'Taunt' skill is basically needed to do escort quests, and makes them much safer than they were in Elona.

The frontier inspector isn't really optional, a lot of important stuff is gated behind letting him show up and doing what he asks.

Thanks for this! Seconding symbiosis. It seems to hit your accuracy a bit but having an ally fire while you're moving lets you do a really significant amount of damage even without trying.

Just noticed a problem with symbiosis: my minion keeps losing her throwing weapon. I think it might be getting burnt up or dissolved with acid or something. I've lost two so far, including a meteorite boomerang.

@Stormlock it's a good idea to give your companions fire/frostproof blankets and mix equipment with acidproof liquid from drug dealers

They may also be getting robbed by gnomes or the like.

How do you get a good amount of snow? You can't just dig it up like the beach's sand.

The only reliable way to get empty potions i found is to find a dungeon with chemical pools on the floor, you just scavenge these for dirty water then you can go and make them empty.

A really helpful tip someone on discord pointed out to me: You can grind bones at a millstone to get bone dust. Bone dust is tagged as a "drug", and for some reason drugs can count as liquids for the purpose of making clay.

I think the easiest way to collect them this way would be to travel to noyel and just walk around a bunch, although I find it a lot easier and less of a head ache to just collect a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of bones and grind them into dust and use that to make clay instead

Also to add:

You can configure the settings for different types of shared containers to have specific items to be dumped in them. Set one for high priority for foods if you're investing in farming.

I hate that I spent hours coming up with a convoluted sorting system to stop the AI from dumping my harvest straight into the garbage instead of my fridge, and only found this stupid system by accident.

All powder can be used as ingredient for clay, crim berries (red berries) work for this.
Also, some powders can be used as replacement to dough, like milled blue lives and basic nuts can be baked into cookies with anti-poison effect.

Here are some more:
- you can fish with bones, great if you worship lady Luck like i do
- train hp by swimming with heavy armor while burdened! while riding while hurting yourself l and a shield on
- stamina becomes a non issue very fast
- you can enable an option to autofeed on worldmap
- training with a dummy is great but you also need to spend platin coins to level your potential with trainers so your training becomes more effective
- worshipping: you want max fevor at 15 and then 30 faith with the autopray feat, for fevor you need to sacrifice tons of stuff on the altar of choice, get a luck altar, carry it to your base and convert it to the god you worship(you will be punished for trying and need a few strong offerings), then if you offer and get the message "your god is right beside you" you can manually pray(dont pray before that) and then get the pet(15 faith) and then the weapon(30faith).

Some questions i have:
can i make a buffer ally? if so how

One problem with symbiosis is that your food get yoinked constantly
Stormlock Nov 8, 2024 @ 7:34am
The feeding the pets is a drain on resources, but if you can afford to feed them good stuff, it's also a way to raise their stats. The ffood they take won't rot, so just give them a stack of the food you want them to eat, whether that's for the stats they need or cheap stuff you can afford. If you let them take whatever they'll steal both your best food and your poisonous or tainted corpses!

If an npc is sleeping and you want to turn in a quest or buy from them all you need to do is play a musical instrument to interrupt their sleep and they will start complaining about the noise and now can be interacted with.

If you need a cheap instrument you can craft a lute at the tinker's table and you do not need to be training up music for this to work.

Stock up on a couple of salt water potions, find an ranked snail adventurer, challenge it to a spar, throw the salt potions on the snail; gain their friendship and rewards.

I just discovered this one: navigate to your journal, then go to the card codex tab. From there, enable auto-collect cards on pick. This will add all enemy cards to the codex upon pickup, and with enough duplicate cards will boost the item drop rate from that particular enemy. I'm not sure how dramatic the effect is but I'm surprised this isn't enabled by default.
