Black screen on start
Issue: I'm just getting a black screen when I start the game.

Steps I’ve Tried:

Updated graphics drivers
Checked game’s system requirements
Ran the game as administrator
Changed compatibility mode
Disabled fullscreen optimizations
Verified game files
Reset graphics settings (tried Alt + Enter to switch to window mode)
Restarted the computer and the game
PC Specs:

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4391)
System Manufacturer: ASUS
System Model: System Product Name
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 8 Cores
Total Physical Memory: 32 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
Driver Version: 32.0.15.6603
Adapter RAM: 10 GB
Driver Date: 2024-10-15
BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. 2004, 02/11/2021
Network Adapters:
Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz

Question: I'm based in Sweden—could there be a system language requirement affecting the game?

That is a possibility, try to make sure game's address are all named in English.

I'm getting the same problem

Hello, I'm not sure what you mean. English is the core OS default setting on my machine. However, I've heard that some people manage to get an option to set the game language. Is there a config file or a setting in regedit where I can change this?

Try and go to your install dir (ie. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elin) and set this config to true in doorstop_config.ini:
redirectOutputLog=true

Once done, start up your game and you should have a log file generating details (output_log.txt) and look through it for an error. For me it had an issue while reading an xml file, had to remove the first empty line in "Elin\Package\Mod_Portrait\package.xml" which is from a mod. After that the game started without an issue.
Hope that helps.

This was the solution for me.

I think the elin custom portrait editor from nexus might have added that empty line to my package.xml

Hey did you ever figured out how to fix this?
Asurm Dec 8, 2024 @ 5:19am
Hmm, maybe try some of these flags (since Elin is also a Unity game):

Also maybe try updating the gpu driver (1060 does not sound that old) and/or directx.
If using any mods, try removing them.

It may be a win11 update that broke the game, even a Ubiscrap game that was discounted by 90% was unplayable with the update.
I am rolling a old machine that cant update to win11 and had no issue, sadly I think its a win11 issue at the moment.
Hopefully MS will fix this mess.

This is my DXDiag sans personal info :

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-7888
BIOS: V1.5 (type: UEFI)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 32714MB RAM
Page File: 18380MB used, 15133MB available
****************************
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
Miracast: Available, no HDCP
Microsoft Graphics Hybrid: Not Supported
DirectX Database Version: 1.0.8
DxDiag Version: 10.00.19041.5198 64bit Unicode

I am using a i74790K Intel CPU and a MSI nVidia 3060 GPU with 32 MB of ram, the system is about 7 - 8 years old except the GPU which I am still paying off, the only upgrades were extra ram and the GPU.

I suggest running things like DXsetup / and or update DX from the MS website, and a VS update also at Microsoft , hope this will help a bit.

ok I MAY have a solution. I tried multiple things so i cannot tell what worked in the end:
____
In the NVIDIA settings, change for Elin:
Vulkan/OpenGL Method to NATIV (Its the last setting)
____
Launch the game in non pre-assembled mode:
Open the *doorstop_config.ini* in the Elin root directory
Change the first option *Specifies whether assembly executing is enabled*
to enabled=true
____

I read that this error happens because the DEV uses some semi pre-assembled shaders and those are somewhat fixed on a specific graphics setup. My guess is the problem lies with OpenGL and NVDIA.
