since HP starting out is small also also even if they are awful having every follower at least equipped with a bow will allow them to hit enemies across the map allowing a lot of volley of fire
* Monster killing as you go - as long as you do those on their time limit, you will gain some money - not much, but it helps;
* City defense - basically "get teleported to a field and kill all monsters there". Simple and it works.
* Mailman/caravaneer - Take an item or someone to somewhere. Item is easier as you don't have to protect someone else until you reach the destination.
Still, it has to be mentioned that my living costs have been small (I found an amazing... CURSED long sword that basically won't get out of my hands so no spending on weapons; also food so far is the one that I get from monsters and nature), I'm a warmage that got the "gain magic when you sleep" trait, and the worst I've spent so far has been... with taxes : p
Also, I just done now the Puppy Cave quest, so I don't know how future spending scale.
extra effective if using the farming mod/ cheat engines speed hack
Combat class - monster subj./bodyguard/dungeon delves
crafting - craft and sell
farmer - farm and sell
for example, you can start out farming then make an inn/brothel using the excess produce

You can get as much soil as you want while raising the level of mining.
And the production of soil floors does not consume stamina!
I don't recommend this because the difficulty of the game changes depending on whether you notice this or not.
