usually its gonna be by appraisals conversions and dungeon runs quests aint too bad though usually you'll want a small army of followers to gun down whatever problem your gonna be running into

since HP starting out is small also also even if they are awful having every follower at least equipped with a bow will allow them to hit enemies across the map allowing a lot of volley of fire
In my case, so far I've been doing well with the following quests types:

* Monster killing as you go - as long as you do those on their time limit, you will gain some money - not much, but it helps;
* City defense - basically "get teleported to a field and kill all monsters there". Simple and it works.
* Mailman/caravaneer - Take an item or someone to somewhere. Item is easier as you don't have to protect someone else until you reach the destination.

Still, it has to be mentioned that my living costs have been small (I found an amazing... CURSED long sword that basically won't get out of my hands so no spending on weapons; also food so far is the one that I get from monsters and nature), I'm a warmage that got the "gain magic when you sleep" trait, and the worst I've spent so far has been... with taxes : p

Also, I just done now the Puppy Cave quest, so I don't know how future spending scale.

I find going into dungeons and snagging magic stuff is good. Scrolls and spell books are worth usually over 100, potions are decent price to.

Flowers are worth a shocking amount. Run through the eight map tiles around your base and pick up all the flowers you find and you will make several hundred coins easily.

Nice
if you enable autopick harvested items option you can rush through harvesting small plants and seeds

extra effective if using the farming mod/ cheat engines speed hack

The way to make money is to focus on your starting classes strengths and branch out afterward.

Combat class - monster subj./bodyguard/dungeon delves
crafting - craft and sell
farmer - farm and sell

for example, you can start out farming then make an inn/brothel using the excess produce
hey hey, this post inspired me to write a bit about my favorite method of making money: musicianship! i began to reply within this thread, but, as is usual with my writing, it became rather long, so i decided to just make it into a post of my own. you can find itttt here!

make sure to grab the appraisal skill from...tinkers camp? If you didn't start with it, auto-ID'ing points/scrolls/books helps sell them for more without having to gamble on paying to ID them.

Sell desks and pillars, easy money.

The easiest way is to sell soil floors in a flooring workshop.
You can get as much soil as you want while raising the level of mining.
And the production of soil floors does not consume stamina!
I don't recommend this because the difficulty of the game changes depending on whether you notice this or not.
