You can also ride another pet while your first pet parasitize you so you basically have three people occupying a single tile aka totem stacking
it seems to just be a way to keep a follower from dying by being a part of your character
stats dont seem to shift that much and its nice to have an extra gunner if when you start off
Learning the skill Symbiosis should have taught you a new ability called "Host".
Just use that skill and use it on whoever you want.
Doh! So obvious, thank you
Symbiosis allows the ally to mount YOU. This also imparts its own penalties that STACK with RIDING.
If you have both skills and 2 allies occupied on your own space, you will see at around level 0 in each skill that your accuracy will be around 30% and less if wielding an offhand.
Dual wielding also impacts how much an offhand will hit significantly.
Everything stacks and applies bonuses/penalties. Health, buffs, and other benefits are also applied. Followers cannot die while "attached" to your player tile, they go unconscious and can be revived through meditation or time passing. It is very complicated :)
The nice thing about having both is that you can attach mage or ranged characters to yourself and make sure they don't die which helps you scale past Threat 20-30 areas in the mid game.
