Symbiosis skill and "parasitize"
The description reads: "Allows your ally to parasitize on you" which on top of being bad English is extremely unhelpful in telling you what it actually does. When I activate it on my pet, the pet disappears (maybe I'm riding it?) and then upon using it again they reappear. I got the skill from being a chaos shape, so maybe there's some freaky body horror stuff happening there. Anybody know what any of this actually does?

Symbiosis allows the ally to mount YOU. This also imparts its own penalties that STACK with RIDING.

If you have both skills and 2 allies occupied on your own space, you will see at around level 0 in each skill that your accuracy will be around 30% and less if wielding an offhand.

Dual wielding also impacts how much an offhand will hit significantly.

Everything stacks and applies bonuses/penalties. Health, buffs, and other benefits are also applied. Followers cannot die while "attached" to your player tile, they go unconscious and can be revived through meditation or time passing. It is very complicated :)

The nice thing about having both is that you can attach mage or ranged characters to yourself and make sure they don't die which helps you scale past Threat 20-30 areas in the mid game.

Basically it means your pet is riding you.
You can also ride another pet while your first pet parasitize you so you basically have three people occupying a single tile aka totem stacking

Either it was very lost in translation, or Japanese have a strange idea of what symbiosis and parasitize means.
from what ive played with

it seems to just be a way to keep a follower from dying by being a part of your character

stats dont seem to shift that much and its nice to have an extra gunner if when you start off

I disagree it's bad english, just think of the same term used for series such as spiderman and what have you. The NPC just inhabits you like venom does

I'm pretty mystified as to what levelling this up does. Even at level 1 my pet seemed to be acting at full speed and power, and so was I. So this seems like a vastly superior option to riding. Is riding supposed to be better with a bulky pet to take hits for you? Me and my pet both have taunt so I can't really tell what is supposed to be taking hits.

Ridiing allows you to move faster based on certain factors that I forget, horses obviously are very good animals to ride and I think give you a speed buff compared to something like a bear cub which gives you a speed penalty in my case of 20. I can't afford a horse yet, but my assumption is that you get a speed buff instead.

I just picked up symbiosis, how to I actually get my pet to ride on me? Am not seeing any interaction prompts to do with that.

Check your spell/abilities window.
Learning the skill Symbiosis should have taught you a new ability called "Host".
Just use that skill and use it on whoever you want.

I always thought it was a party video game joke. Like saying that party member is leeching off of you for exp and such.
