How to create custom Alias (as of version EA 23.12)
This will involve save editing.

You might still have to reroll alias, but for a different reason.

1. Note the number of characters (including spaces) in your intended alias, for example, "Test Alias" has 10 characters.

2. In character creator, count the number of characters in your current alias

3a. If the number matches with your intended alias, complete your character creation.

3b. If the number doesn't matches*, choose one the matches, or reroll until you find one that matches, then complete your character creation.

4. Save and quit when you're able to.

5. In Windows Explorer, Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Lafrontier\Elin\Save\world 1

6. Open game.txt with Notepad++ (I have not tried with normal Notepad yet so not sure if it will work the same)

7. Ctrl + F and find your current alias, then replace it with your intended alias, then save.

8. Open game, load save (it will still show old alias), then check your character tab, it will show new alias.

*If the number of characters between the current alias and the intended one does not match, but you still proceed anyway, then you won't be able to load your save at step 8. Change back to the old alias, or something that match the number of characters will fix it.

Unfortunately, the alias reverts back to the old one when loading into the game with the modified save and playing.

Make sure you edit the game.txt, not index.txt

Also, this method only works in EA 23.12. EA 23.12 Hotfix 1 seems to garble the later part of alias, so you can't do it anymore. The only way is to download the pre-Hotfix version through Steam Depot Downloader and do all the steps above.

For me the safe file seems to be encrypted even in Notepad ++. Or whatever those black boxes are.

It it encrypted, but you can still find your alias and edit it, as long as the number of character matches with your intended alias.

However, this can be done on EA 23.12 pre-Hotfix 1, as post Hotfix 1 seems to have partially encrypted the alias, making it impossible to edit.

You can download the older version through Steam console.
